    Hi Becky (*Waves*)

As others have said, most of us are willing to travel but first of all I always advise brides to figure out what style of photography they'd like. You can do this for example by going on Pinterest and pinning your favourite photos to a board. Then take a look at them. Are they natural ones, funny ones or romantic posed ones? Are they vintage theme, clean...etc. etc.

Once you've a better idea of what style of photography you want then you can start looking for a photographer. At this stage having a budget in mind would be useful. Photographer's vary in price from £100-£3000+ In very general terms though you do get what you pay for.

Obviously Hitched has a directory full of talented and wonderful photographers! It's as good a place to start looking as anywhere else! ?

But yes, first find out what you want then find who you want.

    Hello

not sure where you live but our wedding photographer is Lucy Wallace. She is a reportage style photographer based in Cornwall but I believe she travels, especially to London quite a lot. She is great if you want a relaxed feel to the day Smiley smile

First time poster signed up today to ask for TOG recs.

In the same thread another first time poster who also signed up today comments to recommend a TOGS website.

I'll let you make your own conclusions

Just to clarify, not all wedding photographers travel the UK for all their weddings all of the time. Many will largely work in their core base area (home county and those around) whilst there are some that will go anywhere in the UK for a wedding. The thought of a Friday wedding in Dundee, Saturday one in Exeter and a Sunday wedding in Glasgow is simply unworkable and potentially detrimental to the clients coverage.

Obviously alot depends on your buget and where you live, and of course the style of photography your looking for. I must have looked at websites for over 30 Togs before I picked mine (Bruce Neville who replied to your post earlier). I found that a lot of sites onky have a few pics from each wedding so it was hard to get a real idea of what the photographers work was really like, but Bruce's had hundreds. There are alo big differences in what you get for your money. Sometimes you get a set number of photos, sometimes all the photos, sometimes unedited photos and sometimes edited. Its the biggest decision after the venue and dress so well worth taking your time over

Aside from style and quality of photos, one of my main concerns was that my photographer was familiar with my venue. I only looked at photographers who had worked there before, as the grounds are vast and I didn't want to waste any time finding the right 'spots' for photos. Someone who knows the place and knows what works is a must for me.

A good photographer should still be able to turn up to any venue and get the shots and would do their own research too, maybe even get there early to check the venue out, but not all that shoot weddings are skilled enough or have the dedication to be able to do this.
I prefer to stay local for Leicestershire wedding photography because of that I will visit the same venues all through the year and at all times of day and have been there in all weathers, so when it comes to your wedding I know the exact best spots for the best shots, whatever the time of day or year and whatever the weather. The other benefit is that the local registrars know me and know they can trust me - ive even shot a wedding for one. The local priests also know me too, not all of them of course but remember a lot of them will run 2 or 3 churches. The staff at the Leicester wedding venues know me too and will give me keys for places that I need to be at later for a shot, rather than wasting time having to try and find staff.
Other local suppliers also know me so when it comes to things like the car they know the angle that I prefer the shot from and so line the car up ready for me without faf, making things go smoother and quicker.
If a bride and groom come to me with a wedding at a Leicestershire wedding venue not only can I show them another wedding at their venue but I can show them a wedding at the same time of year, or the same combo- at their venue like church-venue, house-venue- getting ready at venue.
The other advantage of me staying local to Leicester weddings is that I know all the back routes and short cuts, so if there are any traffic hold ups I know the way around them, having local Leicester road knowledge also helps me get from your house to the venue quick so I can get your getting ready shots and get the chaps at the venue without the need for a second shooter.
Staying local also means that you are not paying for me to travel and you also know that if I had a wedding yesterday that I wasn't on the road for 4 hours last night and getting back a 3 am and I am now shooting your wedding.
Lets say your photographer is almost at your venue after a 4 hour drive and something happened that meant they could not shoot your wedding, no problem as the photographer has someone to contact who could step in---- only they too are 4 hours away so its all over by the time they get to you.
I wouldnt travel 4 hours to a wedding as the risk of anything happening on a long journey like that becomes too great, and I much prefer to be behind a camera rather than behind a steering wheel.
I always say that you should start looking at local photographers and if you cant find what you like then look ever increasing outwards.

Im dealing with one element of the wedding at a time, and at the moment all I can think about is photographers. I'm really excited with who we've picked. Sorry if that looks like spam =/ I dont really understand how it is spamming though? Was interested to see what other people thought about it and who they were picking, I thought people would think the same. Like I said, when you decide who you've picked, let me know Smiley smile

Have transport and not afraid to use it too. I quite like the travel element of this job.

Spam or not spam, it's nice that we all get together in the one post every now and again. I'm sure it'll be useful to a few people Smiley smile

I'm confused as to whether this is spam or not but in case anyone is seriously tog hunting, I'd advise narrowing your search by style and budget first and googling based on those!
