There are so many! When and where are you getting married, what's your budget for photography and do you know what kind of photography you want and whether you want a storybook album, traditional album, no album at all.........so many options before you can start to decide!

Thanks Peter! I get really upset when people choose a photographer in this way - it's just not the way to do it, is it? Photography is such an important part of any wedding and every couple is so different. Sorry - getting off my soapbox now!

The lady isn't choosing, she's looking.

Just because someone offers services or recommends, doesn't mean the person has to go with the photographer in question. She can look at work and then ask further questions.

Some people don't know what they want, you can only show images and albums that they do like and that's all that really matters, whether they like what they are getting at the price.

There are so many options, confusing options and websites. Togs offering this, that, trying to entice people in. It's a minefield for couples.

Everyone is different, has different budgets and diferent needs.

The 1st thing is to have a selection of possible recommended photographers in the area....Hence the post....

I agree, but it's such a massive question, it's like posting to say can anyone recommend a new car for me - it's impossible without knowing any of my criteria!

    Hi

Have you had a look at Laura Wakelam, she's really nice and we've worked with her twice in Oxford & Manchester and the bride has really loved her work when they've had the photos back. She's based in St Albans.

Thanks WedmeUp for sticking up for me!!! Having never been married before I haven't got a clue how much photographers cost or what they actually offer for the price they quote so really just wanted some recommendations for TOGs in the local area-they say the best way to find people is by recommendation so thought I would start that way then go from there!!! I am getting married in May 2012 so think I still have time on my side although I do know that good photographers probably get booked up quickly...hence asking of anyone had any recommendations so then I can contact various togs and see what they offer!

I'm so sorry - I wasn't having a go at you, honestly I wasn't! I'm just passionate about ensuring that people have the right photographer for their wedding. I didn't and I wish I'd known then what I know now. It's one of the main reasons I became a wedding planner.

I'm in Abbots Langley and would be happy to have a chat with you and help you find a photographer. xx

    No problems.

I don't think anyone was having a go, altough I think just pointing you in the right direction may have been more helpful.

Get recommendations, google 'wedding photographer {your area}' look at the first two pages of google maybe.

even {your area wedding photographer} will bring up different results. Photographers are also willing to travel

I think the main thing is to go with something you like and thats about it. Aim for around 50-100 retouched pictures provided, all other images on DVD, slideshow. You want full permission to print all your own images, not to have to go back and pay for extra copies. Most will offer just picture packages and other packages will then including albums. I think you are looking at a minimum of £500 for just pictures. You'll get an idea the longer you look. I am happy to answer any questions if you have any but I am sure you will get an idea if you just look around. Bookmark the ones you like.

I would start now, as like you say, a lot of photographers will be booked up a year in advance. I think once you have a date, you should put down a deposit on a photographer...

    Good luck..

    Oooh.

Always meet the photographer before booking. I always encourage my clients to come meet me 1st. If they want to pay a deposit they are more than welcome to but I want them to be at ease about the whole thing 1st, I am a nice guy but you never know somebody might not like me :-)

We are using a fabolous photographer, he's really nie and friendly you know you can spend all day with him, and his work is simply beautiful. Absolutely loads of sample work to see. He's over Hemel Hempstead way, and you can see his work here >

    www.photographybyriddell.co.uk

Make sure you click on the 'wedding blog' link at the top of his wedding portfolio pages, there'd load more stunning images there!

Hi Freckles......I don't think that anyone was "having a go" at you. Your original question opens a larger criteria that most can imagine. Knowing a little bit more about what you are after helps to make better and more targetted suggestions.?
