Photographers - some advice please, is this any good?

Our camera is rubbish and on its last legs, I dont know much - ok anything, about cameras, but would like a tidy one as we are going to Florida for the first time next year, but being a skinflint dont really want to spend hundreds on one. Is this any good or could you please recommend an alternative for me please?

Many thanks and happy new year ?

    Hi Sian!

for the past 18 months Ive been using a Fuji finepix s6500fd bridge camera and its been flippin brilliant. I dont think they make them anymore and I expect that the 5700 is as good if not better as its a newer model. Id recommend it as a great inbetween camera that does a hell of a lot. More than a point and shoot but not as fiddly as a DSLR. Go for it as I love mine (Ive just bought a DSLR but am keeping my Fuji as I can get it in my handbag and it takes fabby photos) I dont want to give it up!

Excellent, thank you my lovely I think we will go for it. Although I think I might single handedly save Currys from the administrators as my washing machine just blew up! I really hope that is not a sign of my year to come ?

Oh no, hope youve not got water everywhere from the washing machine. Good luck with the purchases, happy washing and photography!

I've been using that model since March and been very pleased with it. There's a 5800 out now which is about the same price and has minor improvements.
Have a look at my photostream on flickr for an idea of what it can do.
As I'm getting into photography, I'm noticing more limitations of it, but the main one that would affect all photography is that it's not great in low light without flash.
That is a minor downside though.

Actually, just having a look and there is quite a difference in price. Not really worth it for the tiny difference IMO Smiley smile

I have an S5600 which I used for 18 months until I got my DSLR in October. It's a great camera and your upgrade should be even better, at a bargain price. I learnt loads with mine and it was a good bridge camera which prepared me for my DSLR. Have fun with it.
