Photography Help

soontobehismrs, 27 November, 2012 at 15:31 Posted on Planning 0 14

We met our top 5 photographers over the weekend, but are now completely stumped on which is the best one for us.

1) Lovely guy, beautiful pictures, stunning albums. BUT, he was a photographer for the magazines, so instead of focusing on the little details as well as the standard shots you’d expect, you’d be handed a disk of 300 perfectly thought out images. He brings along lights, and everything else, so everything has to be absolutely perfect. I'm not sure if he'd just take up too much time doing our shots?

2) I’ve got to admit, she has been my favourite all along. She’s young, inexperienced, but has the eye. Once you’ve added an album onto her price though, it’s up to almost as much as everybody else, so is she a bit of an unnecessary ...

gamble? She had lots of ideas, which is fab, but I don't know if everything she does is a trial run.

3) Lovely lady, just a bit... Boring! She went off on a tangent about how she couldn’t understand why photographers put watermarks on their pictures because if people were going to take the picture, they’d take it regardless. Rang a few bells in our heads, because this is the woman who had somebody else’s picture on her website. She's out really..

4) This is where it got difficult. I don’t know why I booked an appointment with this man, it just sort of happened. His albums were amazing, he was a lovely guy and so easy to talk to. Anything was possible with him! He offered a try before you buy engagement shoot to see if we liked him, as well as keeping the deposit at 30% instead of it going upto 50%. His pictures were good, but I just don’t know if a few were overedited.. This is without a doubt Ed’s favourite, and he was mine too until we met with the last one!

5) This man is absolutely amazing!! His photographs are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. He’s top end of our budget, but he’s so professional. He’s got the professionalism of the first man, but also has the eye of the two ladies, especially number 2 which i absolutely adore. He ticks off all my boxes, except one. I’m not sure the albums are exactly the style I’d like. I know we can upgrade, but it would push us up way over our limit. Plus you get a kiss as you leave! Smiley winking

What do you all think!? Smiley smile

I'd go with 5, you can always go elsewhere for an album or order an upgraded one at a later date when you have the money, also you could talk to him about the layout etc you might be able to arrange another option within budget.

    Go with 5!

At the moment we're just having digital only because we liked our guy that much but couldn't afford all album too so we're upgrading once we've paid everything else out for the wedding if we have anything left or getting the album made a month or two after.

I would go with 5. Its worth paying for the one you want and like Funky said, you can save up and buy the album at a later date if you cannot afford the one you really want.

Number 5 definitely - you can tell that you love this guy so much more than the others! Are the albums you can upgrade to the kind of thing you're after?

Images are more important than albums. If having an album pushes you over the edge don't take one or ask not to have one in order to make them fit you financially.

The only doubt in my mind is that with number 5 you get an album. It's nice, but not the one we would have picked, and will most likely have to buy a bigger one. That probably sounds really rude!?

Doesn't sound rude at all. Could you get this after the wedding so you'll not only have a few more pennies but you get the one you want?

    I totally agree with this.

What was it about his albums that you didn't like? It is probable that he uses a company that offers a range and that the ones in the range he showed you didn't float your boat, although it is likely that they have others that would.

As with everything in life; You Get What You Pay For.

Your wedding is the one day in your life when all your family and friends are together. It will flash by and as there is so much going on you will struggle to remember much at all afterwards. Then you will you realise that budgetting for the best photographer AND videographer will enable you to enjoy the day forevermore and are the best investments you can make for your big day.

And yes, it has to be number 5 of course!

I'd say go with number 5 as you have to love your wedding photos. quite a number of photographers will do gift vouchers so your guests can contribute towards your wedding album instead of buying household bits - might be worth asking.

We narrowed it down to either number 4 or 5. Almost 2 weeks later we're still waiting for a quote from number 4, so I think we'll go with my favourite! Smiley smile
