Photography help....setting up a 'print on site' photo booth

May2be, 17 December, 2012 at 19:18 Posted on Planning 0 3

I have recently purchased a photo wall and am looking for advice on what I would need to do to be able to 'print on site'? I have a Nikon Coolpix L120 which I believe to be good enough for some decent quality photos. I was hoping for guests to be able to view their photos on a laptop before printing them off on site but I have no idea how to go about this. Is this even possible? Is there a way to get the photos instantly onto the laptop? What kind of easily portable printer would you advise for good quality prints of at least a 5x7 size but are relatively cheap?

Many thanks Smiley smile

    Hi,

Parker Photographic in Birmingham can supply you with a high quality event printer that should meet your requirements, you can hire it for the weekend. Their website is www.parker-photo.co.uk.

    Good luck.

Hard way purchase a printer that prints from memory card, stopping the shoot to print out images each time whilst people are half cut isn't practical though.

    Or, purchase one of THESE

Honestly, the latter gives a print instantly, they can write along the bottom and can be used as your guest book should you want to.

    Best. Possible. Option.

Plus you can sell the camera and unopened film on ebay afterwards.

Thanks for your replies. I am however looking for a more long term option as I am looking to offer this service locally for events hiring my photo booth.

So basically I need to be able to take the photos and then allow people to view them before deciding which ones they want to buy.....if need be I can take 'orders' and get them printed elsewhere then send them out but I would at least need to find a way for people to be able to view them

    This changes things drastically.

To do it properly, You'll need a DSLR and a printer at least. The Canon models have a Direct Print button which allows you to well, directly print from an image on an LCD.

So that's one way to let them select an image at least. But to crop and edit the images you'll need to offload them onto a laptop before putting them onto paper.

A Coolpix L120 is not really good enough, all those dark places that won't let you focus on the subject require a decent DSLR, you'll need to set up a couple of external flash heads and set them manually too so that the subjects are lit evenly.

This is to do it properly, which unless you are doing it for free you'll need to do.

You'll also need public liability insurance for 2 million in case anyone trips on a wig, stand, whatever.

Even if you don't print them on site, and just use the camera, but just use the LCD screen to make a sale you have to understand there will be people standing behind you with a better camera, taking a better picture.

If I could recommend you one thing. Offer a flat rate and supply the images on disc. At least for the first few times. It'll allow you to build experience and you can add the complications later because, Photo Booths are either used or they aren't. If you count on print sales you will be really disappointed.
