Photography ideas! HELP!

Bettsy2610, 18 June, 2015 at 23:20 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hey everyone.

This is my first time posting, so I hope you can all help me.

Ive fallen in love with a hotel for our wedding, it provides everything that we have been looking for and more, it's stylish, it's big, it is central to all of our expected guests. There's just one thing that's getting in the way. The Photo opportunities are very limited. The hotel is in the middle of the town centre and the wedding would take place on the third floor.

The wedding coordinator suggested hiring a photographer with a white/green screen and placing that within one of the hired rooms as we would have exclusive use of the floor, my only issue is, I've not seen any weddings have their weddings photos in front of a white/green screen so I wouldn't know what to expect.

Have any of you experienced this problem and how did you over come it? I really don't want to miss out on the venue because of the photos however I want to be able to look back and have the memories.

Thank you

For what reason are they suggesting you get a photographer in with a greenscreen? So they can edit in a false backdrop?

It's not something i'd want for my wedding personally and it's not something i'd do professionally either. I think it would make my wedding feel more like a formal dinner, or one of those tourist hotspots where they pap you before you go in.

If it's a big, stylish hotel there will be lots of photo opportunities to be had inside. Amazing things often come from nothing but a bit of skill, creativity and imagination. As long as you hire a skilled photographer, you should have nothing to worry about.

Yeah I agree with S&L, I wouldn't like the idea of a false background put in during the editing process. If you've fallen in love with the hotel then it must have some features that a good photographer will know how to utilise. For outdoor shots, I personally love the contrast of a bride and groom against a city backdrop, I think it looks so cool.

Sounds odd... Is there a park nearby? You could just take some time after the ceremony to pop over there in a car and take some photos. Friends of ours did that. I didn't even notice they were gone if i'm honest. Too busy eating the canapes ;-)

Don't think I'd be too keen on a photographer using a green screen either, especially as you say, it's a nice hotel with lovely photo opportunities. I think I'd ask about getting a different photographer.

Everywhere even cities have green spaces, many people go to a seperate loction for photos so you could just find a local park

We have the same problem with our venue, so we're having group pictures in the hotel, then nipping out for half an hour to have pics taken in the local park.

I was bridesmaid last year and we had some photos outside, but then unfortunately it started to rain. We went inside and just took photos inside, and they've still come out great. No reason to add in a false background or anything like that.

Is there no area inside that you would be happy to be the background for your photos?

Most city centres have a park nearby. Urban wedding photography can also be excellent. I would suggest the green/blue/grey screen idea is a very bad one for wedding photography. technically its easy, although the backgrounds need to have used similar lighting dynamics or the end result simply looks false. I do use CSO for video work although would never use it on a wedding.
