How much is everyone paying for photographers and what is included in your package with them? is anyone just getting them to take the photos and making photobooks online yourself?

We haven't booked our tog yet, but the one we like and will hopefully book is £1000 for the day.

That includes our tog for the full day from bridal prep through to 1st dance.

Also includes pre wedding photo shoot.

    All pictures fully edited.

We didnt want an album done for us as we would like to do that ourselves. I quite like the idea of having an old style ringbinded album with the sticky pages on, rather than anything printed and modern.

We paid close to £2k. It included unlimited photos taken from me getting ready through to the first dance (and in fact the TOG stayed on and took extra photos after this for us), all proofs on cd (2000+) and 200 of our favourites printed and a 30 page storybook album. We went with someone that had come highly recommended and who's work we were familiar with rather than going for the cheapest.

I'm paying £1000.00 for the photographer there 8 hours, a beautiful handmade storybook AND the disc.

and more importantly a fab tog!

No point pyaing whatever you pay, if you get poor photos.

I wasnt going to scrimp on the TOG esp as its one of the only things (apart frm your husband and wedding ring!!) youl have after the day!!

We are paying £1600 I believe for 2 TOGS all day til after the first dance. They will take unlimited shots and provide us with a leather bound 'proofs' book (which we get to keep) of all the pics taken then we have a what i call 'proper' album with 90 pics in. They have said if theres a few more pics we want they'll include them at no extra costs.

They were the TOGs at my brothers wedding and were so lovley i knew id want them for my wedding before i was even engaged!!

Be careful when you create photobooks using consumer websites.

Although I also offer a full digital package for wedding photography, with all images on disc for couples to do just that (with the option to order an album from me), I always advise my couples that the quality of products available to the consumer really does not match those that a professional lab can offer. I use one of the best labs in the UK and although the ablums are not cheap, the quality is outstanding. I don't think it is an item that can you can scrimp on, as it's something that you will want to last for a lifetime and it should display one of the most important days of your life in all the glory it deserves.

All my albums and pages are bespoke and designed and created by me - the templates you find for most consumer products (and even from the pro lab I use) are pretty naff and cheesy!

Just be careful of a false economy!

So true. I did a rock the frock shoot for a friend recently and she had the photos printed at snapfish (I think). It did strange things to a couple of them. They printed beautifully from the professional lab though.

Its all about budgets and "you get what you pay for" They are a nice short term solution for most who want something nice until they can get something done properly. If you have a search around there are a few posts about the books and recommendations on where best to go for those books.

if you can not find them then just ask on a new post and a few recommendations will appear.

I think its apparent that prices vary wildly.

We're paying ~£1K which included a pre-wedding shoot, and Carmen getting ready until the 1st Dance.

This is for "Digital-Only", so we'll get a bunch of edited shots on CD. Carmen is semi-pro photographer and won't simply be going to photobox ?

As with many suppliers, the price varies with area, service levels and experience. Our decision was not price based, it was simply the style of her work.

Over my time on Hitched I've seen prices from Free-5k, everyone has a price point and level of expectation.

Ours is £350, a semi pro, digital only package. He is cheap because he makes his money from a different profession and does wedding photography for fun. Also his camera is marginally older and has fewer megapixels but sufficient for what we want (no large canvasses possible - such a SHAME - no potential for parents to decide they want a LARGE wedding portait on the wall (the largish graduation picture is still wrapped up in its box!)).

We chose him because OH really liked his pictures - we've seen entire albums and OH thought his lighting was the best of any of those I showed him (OH actually takes photos competently, I don't!) including some three times the price. We don't want super artistic stuff (like black and white with one item in colour, we want sensible shots of us and our guests and a later "rock the dress" style shoot up on Dartmoor for our couples pics.

Quite looking forward to designing our own albums on photobox or similar - our calendars came out really well last year, as did the just under A3 sized landscape shots by my OH (limitations were the camera and the pictures, not the printing!)

We have 2 photographers - one is coming to take snaps of the getting ready process and the oter will be with groomie!! They are staying until first dance and we get all images edited on CD, a DVD of the images in running order set to music and she also mocks up an album of the images she thinks are best! All the photos are copyright free and hi res so we can make our own photobooks! £900 xx

I know that this is a subject that always gets lots of attention. Here are my thoughts:

    1. Spend as much as you are comfortable with but just remember that these will be your photographs for life
    2. Get the maximum coverage that you can afford. Its really worth getting the whole day covered if you can even if it means waiting for an album when the overdraft recovers you will have the images taken
    3. Dont just find a good photographer, find a personality that you want at your wedding. Everyone has heard of the photographer that takes over your day
    4. Find a wedding photographer. By that I mean someone that is experienced at weddings (and enjoys them) they need to be in the right place at the right time and capture all those key moments
    5. Get full resolution digital files and dont be restricted by the number. Some photographers give smaller resolution images and say that you will get 300 images for example. Its your wedding day if there are 634 good images from the day then why shouldn't you have them.

I could go on and on but these are the key points. Normally, you get what you pay for. Meet 3photographers and compare them on experience, like-ability and the packages they offer. And most importantly, how much they like photographing weddings. There are lots of frustrated landscape photographers that feel they have to do weddings to pay the bills.

Free or £15k, either can work if they are the right photographer for you.

    This is absolutely true.....

Although peoples perceptions of what is good, ok or poor photography will vary dramatically.

I've struck lucky! Gosh looking at these prices!

My H2B's sister is a professional photographer, (shes very good) and is setting up her personal portfilio so she's doing them for free as a present to us! she's going to edit them and produce them digitally, but also make us some high quality prints and a large print, that she will frame professionally as a reminder. we're going to do our own album because i want something with our invitations in it and pictures and pressed flowers - more of a reminder of our day in full than just a book of pictures.

Around 10-15% of my wedding budget is being spent on photography. Like others have said, the memories are hugely important and a good photographer will capture moments that would otherwise be lost in time (or in my tiny brain). I have chosen to have an album and also a parent album for M&D as I don't think I could wait, I know it has increased the up-front costs but it's worth it as I will be impatient to have the book and don't think I could rely on myself to produce one quickly or well!

We are paying 1300Euro for ours, this is for 8 hours coverage which will cover from me getting rerady until the first dance. It will be unlimited images with full copyright, we will also get a digital storybook included. If we want to order additional books for mums and dads then we can.
