Picnic food - what do you think?

Knees, 16 August, 2011 at 11:38 Posted on Planning 0 4

We're getting married abroad, but we're having quite a big reception when we get home. The idea started out as an evening party with hog roast and a disco, but we soon realised that our grannies probably wouldn't be too keen on that, so we decided to extend the day to separate the afternoon and evening, with the afternoon guests being those who were invited to our wedding abroad, but couldn't make it.

It'll be late afternoon, so we don't want to put on a full wedding breakfast, as we'll be having the hog roast in the evening, and I was umming and ahhing between afternoon tea or canapes, to be served with bubbly and/or Pimms and/or beer bottles, with a cash bar in the evening (for OH's football mates!).

I'm hoping to carry through the beach theme of our wedding abroad with a beach theme at home as well.

I had the idea yesterday of doing picnic baskets on each table. I reckon we'd have to get caterers in, who could either present a basket to each table, or have the baskets already on the tables when people arrive.

What do you think of this idea?

I think that's a brilliant idea! Really charming. I'd advise putting each lunch in a brown paper bag like old school lunches just to stop people fighting over who gets the cheese sandwiches though! If your venue has a freezer you could even have ice cream for afters.

I think it's a lovely idea. You could have ham, salad, olives, cheese, bread and pickles and people can help themselves perhaps.

I think this is a fab idea...

crusty bread, mixed meats, mixed cheeses, olives, pate, sunblush tomatoes, scones with cream and jam, fresh strawberries...

    I love the picnic idea!

You could have smoked salmon sandwiches, nice mixed salads, olives, pates, crusty bread, sunblush tomatoes, dips and crudites and then fruit salads and cupcakes for after ?
