abigaildarling, 13 September, 2011 at 18:32 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi, I'd like some advice on on planning a wedding in a short space of time (six month or less). I want to plan a wedding in six months time and need to know if it can be done!! I'd really like some advice from anyone who's planned a wedding that quickly - all tips would be greately appreciated!!

thanks

Abigail

It can be easily done in 6 months. after the date is sorted and the venue booked, look to getting your dress and booking up other suppliers (photographer, cake etc...)

I would look to getting 1 supplier sorted in one day (i.e plan to go see as many photographers on one day then choose at the end of the day)

Just remember that you may not always get what you want so as long as you are prepaired for a little rejection then you will be fine.

I recently planned one for a client in under 12 weeks, my latest enquiry is for a wedding in 3 weeks!

I hope it can be done! I'm 1 month into our six month engagement...so far I have the church booked, and this weekend we're planning to tick off lots of things including reception venue etc.

It does depend a bit on what you're after. We're really relaxed about quite a lot of things, but very clear where we won't compromise. I find this really helpful in looking into things.

I can't wait until we're married, and so there's no way I was going to have a long engagement! And also, with only 6 months planning, I don't expect everything to be perfect...so if it rains, it rains!

Good luck with your planning x

I did it in 5 months (despite being with DH since 1995!). It's definitely doable. It will be intense though!! You will need to decide whether or not you are prepared to compromise - we said it had to be within a particular timeframe, and then looked at which venues were available. If you're the type to set your heart on a particular date, place, photographer, etc then it might be tricky.

Also on a practical point if you are having a civil ceremony you will need to check there are registrars available on the day(s) you want. We found there were none available so we ended up going for a humanist ceremony (doing the legal bit the day before). Obviously that isn't for everyone and you might find things are easier to arrange out of peak wedding season.

HTH a bit and if you're like me, you'll find this board really helpful in the next 6 months!!

Oh and be prepared for lots of bridal shops telling you there is a "minimum 26 week lead time" for dresses - there are always other options!!!

Mine has been planned in 6 months. It's busy but do able!

Once the big things are sorted you can decide how many little touches you want depending on how much time and energy you have.

We're planning ours in 12 weeks!

So far so good, everyone who we want to attend can, all the major suppliers are booked, all we need are our outfits (daughters flower girl dress was bought at the weekend) and the rings.

Everything else left to do is just finishing touches, details etc

Advice would be, be super organised, decide what you want in advance, and be very clear on your expectations, and google is your friend ?

As for my dress and the "26 week lead time" I've found a Bridal Factory Outlet which sells all off the peg dresses upto a size 30!! so there's bound to be something that fits and I like!

    Good Luck!

It is definitely doable - we will be 5 and half months between getting engaged and getting married.

Start with a list and work through it - book all the main stuff (church/venue/photographer/florist) first and then worry about the little stuff.

Be prepared for people to be shocked that the wedding is in less than 6 months ... if they act too over dramatic about it then find another supplier - the ones I have ended up with were the ones that didn't freak out at the concept.

I got my dress from https://www.wed2b.com/ - they were brilliant - there are loads of options like this if you look - lots of wedding dress shops told me I didn't have enough time, but other were much more helpful.

    Good Luck

I would get the venue, photographer, cars, florist and catering sorted ASAP. Good photographers get booked up very quickly. Dresses are taking 26 weeks to arrive, so get looking now.

We started looking for ours in May this year for our Aug 2012 wedding and some were already booked! There were plenty more out there, but photographers do get booked up pretty quickly. I'd say after you've got your venue and registrar sorted, the photographer should be your next priority.

Hi i planned my sisters wedding (shes not well organised so asked me to take control) in 3 months, so its not an issue on the timescale, you just have to act fast and get organised, make a list of everything u need and want and get on the net and phoning, we got almost everything for her wedding either discounted or in sales with it being soon, so saved money aswell, got a huge discount on the venue hotel with it being a late booking as well...

i am sure you wil have ideas of what you want, so make lists for when you are shopping, i ended up with lists for lists, but it worked and everying was perfect.

    Where do you live??

Yes it can be done ? we planned ours in 6 months and we had the most wonderful day. I would say book venue for ceremony/reception FIRST then do everything else. We found it helped that we didn't have our hearts set on one particular date and were willing to be flexible because of the timescale. Have you considered a Friday or Sunday Wedding as these are easier to achieve if time is short? And they are usually cheaper which is also a bonus! We got married on a Friday and didn't have any problems with the venue, registrars, tog or flowers and our guests were happy to take time off work. Happy planning be prepared to be busy lol! ? Oh and we didn't get any negativity from anyone - either they want your business or they don't!
