Planning and dresses

*Matilda*, 3 January, 2013 at 23:15 Posted on Planning 0 4

So, it's been just over a month since I got engaged. I've booked the church and (almost) the venue, have bought the bridesmaid dresses and have started work on some diy descorations/favour making...

I went dress shopping today and hated all of the dresses I tried on! None of them made me feel very special.. has anyone else had this experience? Have booked a few more dress shops for next week so hopefully will have more luck!

Can anyone recommend any good bridal shops in London? Would be great to hear your advice..

Thanks!

Tilly x

Firstly and most important Tilly, congratulations! Woohoo!

Right, now we need to know what venue are you decided on? ?

Reference the dress, don't worry, this way you get to play more. Do you know what sort of style you are after and maybe I could suggest things?

I love Jenny Packham dresses but they might be too 'busy' or 'delicate' for some.

    Hello and congratulations!

I had exactly the same feelings after my first dress shopping trip. They were all very lovely dresses but not very 'me'. I felt that there was so much pressure to enjoy shopping for a dress that I built it up in my head too much before the trip and just ended up feeling stressed.

I had very little idea of what would suit me and so decided to let the assistant pick a dress for me to try on. I never would have looked twice at it on the hanger but the minute she laced me in I felt amazing. I am not London based so can't recommend a specific shop but I am sure most staff will have a very good idea of what will suit your shape/style so perhaps pick a couple of wild cards.

I also found that the second time I went shopping I felt more special because I bothered to put on some make-up and do something with my hair so I got more of an overall look.

Hope that helps and good luck with the shops next week.

    xx

    Hello!

I found the first time i went shopping i was just finding out what suited me and it was only then when i went to shops after that i was trying on dresses that were flattering.

Which shops have you been/going to? In London the shops i was recommended and went to were Belle Bridal in Whetstone, Angelica in Angel and Mirror Mirror in Angel, which is where i got my dress from in the end. I was also recommended Mignonette in Luton but never made it there.

Are there any dresses you have seen that you like the look of?

    Good luck!

Mignonette in Luton is where I bought my dress, they were brilliant, real perfectionists when it came to the fittings!

Mia sposa in Cockfosters are good too, I also went to Silouhettes in Richmond, the wedding dress shop in Wimbledon park and Pronuptia in hatton gardens.

In terms of finding a dress, relax. I went to about ten different shops before I found my dress. Work out what suits you and go from there, let the shop assistants suggest something. If you find something go back another day and try it on again. Don't rush into it, just enjoy it.
