Planning ground to a halt... due to my indecisiveness!

monkey_nut, 20 February, 2011 at 14:34 Posted on Planning 0 21

Getting married in September... We have the venue/registrar/honeymoon sorted and I have my dress ordered but I've come unstuck at the colour scheme decision...

My dress is ivory lace and I'm only haveing one bridesmaid (sis) and I can't decide between dark purple or navy.

I fancy a cake like the one below and both purple & navy will go with the beige/gold ribbon.

I know this is probably ridiculous but I just can't choose which colour to go for! My OH and sister are both happy to go with whatever I decide. Unfortnately I can't really decide on flowers/stationery etc until I pick a colour and for some reason I'm incapable!

Any ideas/suggestions or pics that might help?

Thanks in advance!

Personally I would have navy. Purple is a bit "common" nowedays [as in lots of people have it as opposed to Vicky-Pollard] and it would be nice to be a bit diffirent

***disclaimer; I understan I am being a hooj hypocritepreaching about diffirence when I have a vintage theme***

If you like the beige/gold tones of the cake ribbon, why not have a look at mocha or mink as a bridesmaid colour ?

Obviously I am biased because my BMs are in navy - and I love it. But you could easily introduce other colours too

Thanks for the replies ladies. I know nobody can choose for me but it does help, honest. OH likes them both Smiley smile

I think I like the idea of both of them and they both have their plus points. I think I slightly prefer purple but then I love the fact that navy is a bit more unusual and a bit easier to match things to rather than a specific shade of purple. Going BM dress shopping next week so that might help.

I like the mink/mocha idea, thanks! Smiley smile

    Hi

I think both colours are nice and could work but have seen a couple of lovely navy weddings recently. Always thought it would be quite dark but have been proved wrong!

The navy would work well the ivory and beige tones - see on our website at the Sophistication design for an idea of the navy with the cream.

I Had a dark purple theme with splashes of bright yellow. It was beautiful....but i am biased!!

The purple things in the wedding were not the same shade and it was all lovely.

By the way...the cake was made by my SIL and went down a storm.....the wonkiness was indeed a quirk!

I had navy wedding so completely biased! Found it was easy to match the colour and accessories. Didn't think it was to dark because we had lots of sparkle with everything! It was christmas wedding and thats my excuse!

If you really can't decide why don't you combine both of the colours together. Try search engines images for purple and navy colour schemes and see what it looks like. x

I went to a wedding that was midnight blue with hints of silver and it looked gorgeous. I like purple too, but you have so many different shades to choose from ?

I'm having cadbury purple and lime green theme so another biased one here....however, I love the navy blue too! For me, if I was having anything other than a winter wedding and was going for navy blue I think I would mix in a brighter colour like the fusia pink to make it a little lighter

For anyone that's interested I decided to go with purple in the end... don't ask how I arrived at the decision, I just did! Smiley smile I still have loads to organise but less stressed now that I have a plan!
