Planning Jan-Apr 2015. Do we have enough time?

mustard_mitt, 5 January, 2014 at 22:32 Posted on Planning 0 13

Forgive me, I'm new to all this wedding planning malarkey.... we got engaged Christmas Day and have just started looking at venues (it's been less than two weeks!) with the hope of a wedding sometime between January & April 2015 but after reading some early 2015 wedding posts on here, I'm starting to think we're too late to be thinking of an early 2015 wedding date!

Most early 2015 brides have pretty much all the important stuff done, like venue, date, photographer, dress etc. I have none of that! I've literally contacted some venues, I've not even visited any!

Is it wishful thinking that we might be able to plan all this in 12-15 months? Should we be giving ourselves more time? Or is everyone else on this site just super organised?

You have loads of time, don't worry. I planned mine in 7 months for a February wedding. Also, suppliers are quieter in the earlier months so your favourites might still be available ?

We started booking ours in May 2013 for April 2014, you have plenty of time. Some people are just super organised it doesn't mean you have to rush/panic.

You most definitely will have enough time.. Congratulations btw! You'll also get it cheaper in those months too rather than summer. What area are you planning to wed in? We got engaged a month ago and sorted venue just this past week... I now plan to have about 6 months forgetting about it now! You'll certainly need to sort venue first then you can chill, but yes, you won't have to rush x

You do have plenty of time but for venue I would get your skates on, talking to a few venues over the past week or so they are saying they are having a record year for bookings.

July for an April wedding here so I would say you have loads of time but like last poster said I would start thinking about venue and registrar or equivalent first and quicksmart...just to get it secured. You will feels tonnes better knowing thats done and it takes the pressure off everything else I found.

Plenty time Smiley smile I Had booked my Photographer a year in advance (mostly because I already knew who I wanted), and my venue around 4 months before the wedding. My Dress was ordered 9 months before the wedding. Everything else was bought/booked within the last 8 weeks, and that was with a newborn too! We didn't scrimp on anything we wanted and got some amazing vendors. If you are off peak as jan - april is vendors should be pretty available with a year to go.

PS I recommend taking more than 8 weeks if you've got it Smiley winking

You don't have to worry at all. You still have an year ahead of you. Don't you bother about the lack of time. People plan wedding in a months time. Like see my brother's wedding was fixed last week and he is getting married on mid-May. And since the bride is my best friend I am the chief Bridesmaid. We have just a few months to plan the entire wedding. The first thing you have to do is to book the hall and caterer and any wedding planner if you want any. Then work on the guest list and the kind of wedding you want. Take things slowly, you don't have to rush. Most importantly enjoy this whole process of planning your wedding. All the best for your wedding. Now let me run to play brother's.

Loads of time, August 2013 --> April 2014 planning time, I think it can be possible to over plan - also I've seen a few ladies selling stuff because they've had so long to plan, they've bought stuff and changed their mind (Which is by no way a criticism!), but I know that everything I have organised & bought will be used, because I haven't got time to change my mind. Smiley smile

    Congratulations and welcome to Hitched!

You have plenty of time don't worry!

I got engaged Christmas Day 2012 and get married in April this year so around the same timeframe as you and my sister in law has booked and planned her wedding within 2 months.

Some people prefer to have a longer engagement so they have a longer time to save and plan.

Do make sure you secure your venue and photographer as soon you can, especially if you want to marry on a Saturday as they get booked up quick.

You have loooaaaads of time! I'm doing mine in 4 1/2 months from engagement to wedding. We found a venue we love and as in wedding terms most of our booking have been 'late' we've been able to haggle. You have a year and a third so no stress at all. Book the venue soonish then go from there. Good luck!

You have plenty of time. There are brides on here who have organised their weddings in 3 months (and maybe less!).

Just get looking for a venue first & you'll be fine.
