Plans day after wedding?

xKellsBellsx, 13 November, 2012 at 10:09 Posted on Planning 0 40

I just wrote in another thread that in the days before the wedding, one of the things I have to do is make sure our house is nice and tody as we are having an open house on the day after the wedding and just wondered what everyone else did / is planning to do on the day after? I know lots of people will be going on honeymoon, but we aren't going until 27th Dec (wedding is on the 8th).

My FMIL asked me if I would arrange a dinner for 45+ people the day after as it would mean getting the marquee hire free of charge at their favourite local restaurant...I nearly fell over...that's almost akin to planning another wedding!

Well our celebrations didn't end until 7am! But, we woke up at the hotel, sat in bed and chatted about what an amazing day we'd had, went out to get some lunch, had a walk and generally just chilled out - I was absolutely shattered!

There is NO WAY I would have hosted a dinner the day after!

Jules - that sounds like one hell of a night! That's how I would love our wedding to be!! Did you get married in a hotel, thus meaning you could stay up til the early hours? Our venue shuts at midnight, but most of the guests are staying in a hotel with a 24 hour bar, so I can see us all going there.

Cupcake - a BBQ would be lovely! But obviously the honeymoon takes priority if that is the best day for you to fly!

We woke up at the hotel, had a gorgeous cooked breakfast, said our thank you's and goodbye's to all our guests and went back to my mums house.

We then went to the bank to pay in all our money guests had given us, grabbed a McDonald's double cheeseburger each while we were there, then went back home for an afternoon nap, before ordering in takeaway for the whole family that night. Back to normal with a bang, but it was lovely and relaxed! x

Current plan (always subject to change) is:

-breakfast in the castle with all the other guests who stay the night (should be about 40 of us, though not sure who will get up for it!)

-some people will be playing golf at Hever Golf club the following day, and I'm considering sorting out a pub lunch for whoever decides not to play at a local pub.

-saying goodbye to family who are flying home

-collecting the puppy from the dog-sitter and then collapsing into bed at home!

(our honeymoon is all booked, and we don't leave until the Wednesday following our Saturday wedding)

As most of our guests are travelling a distance to be with us for our wedding we are doing an informal beach BBQ for lunch the day after for those who want to join us. We originally wanted to get married by the beach but our venue is a bit inland now, our theme isstill coastal so this is a nice way to tie it all together we thought.

Breakfast at venue with the (apx) 20 other people staying there and then pack up and go, although we'll pop into the pub b&b 2mins down the road to see who's around still there and maybe grab a drink or lunch depending.

My mum and dad will be hosting an informal get together at their house with a few nibbles. A few friends and family will be travelling for the wedding so we want to spend as much time with them as possible. The day after we fly out for our honeymoon so it's gonna be pretty action packed! ?

We're having a champagne breakfast in bed at our venue then my bridesmaid is driving us to Glasgow where we've booked a hotel.

We'll spend the day ice skating in George Square (they have an outdoor ice rink at Christmas time) followed by a lovely lunch, then heading back to hotel to lie in bed, chill and watch movies all night ?

I want to spend the day after the wedding just us two, chilling out and chatting about the wedding.

What I would LOVE to do is have a nice breakfast with my new husband, go for a nice walk, have lunch with my family who will be flying over from the UK and then have some chilled out beers in one of the local bodega bars.

Realistically however it will probably be lie horizontal on the sofa and order some Dominos.

My family are all travelling a long way to be with us and so are staying at our venue the night after the wedding as well. We have decided to stay an extra night too as we didnt like the idea of just getting up and going home after the big day. We plan on sleeping a lot after the other guests have left after breakfast and probably spending some time in the spa, again doing not much before a meal in the evening with family x

I'm hoping to have all our travelling guests round for some sort of much before they leave so we can say proper goodbyes. Depending on how many there are of course.

After brekkie at the hotel and a lazy morning/early afternoon with those staying over we're planning on a few nibbles and drinks at a pub in town with those staying on before going back to our reception hotel for another night. Most people have a distance to travel and we're getting married on a Thurs so thought for those who want to make a long weekend of it and locals who can't get a day off, we can extend the celebrations!

Not sure yet but will be having a lie-in and breakfast with my new husband in the hotel! Then maybe meet up with some of our guests for lunch or nibbles, but nothing too formal. OHs family have a long way to travel back so I guess it depends what time they will be wanting to get on the road.....x

We had breakfast the next morning with all of our guests who stayed at the venue, then packed up everything and said our goodbyes to those flying home. OH had a game of golf (with my blessing) then we relaxed together with my son and opened our cards and presents.

As we had been entertaining guests since the Thursday before the wedding I was glad to have some down time to ourselves.

i think like others we have a lot of people coming from a fairly long way away so it will be nice for us to say thanks and bye, and obviously make them do some work too!! It's a very DIY wedding Smiley smile

My parents are hosting a 'lunch' thingy. Theyre invited all family members on both sides to it like an open house, so they dont know how many will come. We're invited too, and I think it'll be nice to pop over as we wont be leaving on our 'minimoon' til the following day, and we'll need to collect our dog again ?

Although wedding is in the garden, we will stay at a b&b. OH's mum will probably have a drinks and nibbles thing in the marquee for her friends which we'll pop into. Then find somewhere to hide with my family til they leave! Then sleep. That is all.

We stayed at home on our wedding night so we had a nice lie in and some breakfast, then we had various family and friends pop by to visit us before they headed back off on their travels. A couple of my husbands friends stayed an extra night as it was bank holiday weekend, so we met them for drinks and a meal. Really enjoyed the day after actually, it was lovely to talk about the day with people we hadn't actually had that much time to speak to!

Sorry only just seen this! We didn't get married in a hotel, we had our venue until 1am and then a group of us actually went to a club - the most surreal experience being in a club in your wedding dress! Then we went back to a friends house and drank cocktails and danced in his kitchen - we just didn't want the night to end!

As long as we're not jetting off on our honeymoon, one of our ushers has offered to have a bbq for all our friends and family. I think it would be lovely to spend the day after with everybody.

We arranged a lovely Sunday lunch at the hotel with immediate family and it was really chilled and we had a great laugh. It was a lovely wind down day

My OH actually said to me "Can you bring some jeans to change into?" Seriously!! If I'm going clubbing on my wedding night then I'm bloomin' well wearing my dress! I know it's not for everyone but if you want to do it then you definitely should!
