Plans for (not the best) weather?

BrideMrsT2B, 10 June, 2011 at 08:39 Posted on Planning 0 9

Morning Everyone,

So I have looked at the long range weather forecast and its looking unsettled for our wedding day although I am aware that this can change a million times between now and our wedding day but i'm wondering if I should be making any plans for wet weather?

We are getting married and having our reception all in one venue so once I arrive there on the morning to get married we have no travel to do but was looking forward to some sunny weather for photographs and we have a BBQ in the evening.

Our venue has plenty of space for photos inside if the weather is bad. If it's nice there is an outside ares on a slope that just screams 'group shots, if not there is a space inside to get 50 people together for photos. But then in October we had to consider rain - we've even appointed an official brolly escort for me when we arrive if it's raining!

I hope you have some kind of gazebo for the BBQ just in case!

Oh yeah they have gazebo's for the BBQ and it would just be served all indoors if it rains. I am more concerned about photos but am currently googling some welly boots!!

I got married in March so was fully expecting rain, and in preparation for this I bought 3 clear dome umbrellas trimmed in lilac to tie in with our colour scheme. The day turned out to be fine, a bit cloudy but no rain at all - and to be honest I was a bit disappointed my lovely umbrellas didn't get to make an appearance! I think some photos using them would have been fun, but never mind!

First, don't rely on the long range weather forecast. They are pretty inaccurate. I first looked at the forecast the Wednesday before our Saturday wedding and it ended up completely wrong!

Second, speak to your venue and your TOGs about their wet weather plan. Both should have one, and if they don't, this will be a timely kick up the backside for them.

Third, when in doubt shop! Get yourself a fab pair of wellies and a nice brolly. You might want to speak to any bridesmaids you have to ensure they have suitable footwear if you'll want them to have photos outside and it's very wet.

Fourth, I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry. There's nothing you can do about the weather so don't let stressing about it spoil the run up to your day - only you can control that. Besides, as Trickers said, you really won't care about it on the day. You'll be too busy being happy!

My only concerns are that it snows so heavily that no one can get there. I was reading the overall forecast for the year, and they seem to think it's going to be the worst winter yet....just my luck! But! i won't be stressing because worse case scenario, i'm replanning a wedding. Best case, i'm getting my white winter wedding that i could only dream of having!

I think if it's going to rain on the day, it's the perfect excuse to buy yourself some fabulous wellies and bling them up a bit and make a real feature of them if it's raining! I'm going to buy wellies, bringing my footwear for the day up to 3 different pairs! Smiley smile

Absoloutely!! The weather should always be factored in cos you can't at all predict it. It could be red hot and sunny the day before and grey and raining on the day, or vice versa.

You can never count on the weather on this lovely Island of Great Britain can we? Smiley smile Smiley smile

I have got a wedding umbrella (Big golf umbrella in ivory) from confetti and it's really nice quality and tasteful. I would use it to get to and from the car to the chapel and the reception etc!

Also we have let the chapel know that although we ideally want our pics and champagne and canapes in the rose garden which is in 15 acres of gardens, if necessary we can use the Refectory (A long hall with beamed roof, it's pretty!)

Also my shoes are silk ivory 4 inch heels with hand sewn crystals and glass stones all sewn into the heel and the shoe, all over. So if the ground was damp, muddy, rainy or ANYTHING other than bone dry and clean, I have a spare pair that I had for a wedding where I was a bridesmaid in ivory, and I would use those for all the outside bits and then change into the proper shoes inside. Just thinking ahead really!

I know it would dampen (excuse the pun) the fun of it all, especially a summer wedding, but I figured you need to be prepared!

With 3 weeks to go I ordered some fun wellies this week, the weather is unpredictable at the minute so i want to be prepared.

I'm not going to be upset if it rains on my wedding day, you can't order the weather.

I will be happy in my wellies having photo's in the rain under the big tree at my venue. I will dry after all.
