Plaster dipping flowers - anyone tried this?

alabastamasta, 28 October, 2013 at 21:53 Posted on Planning 0 13

Looking for ways to fill up my table decorations and I can across this site which talks about dipping fake flowers in plaster and using them as votives or general decs. Has anyone here tried something like this? Was it easy? Just trying to work out whether it's worth giving it a go Smiley smile

Link here for those that are interested!

I've never heard of that before, sounds an unusual plan and I dare say many won't have seen ur before either.

Are you able to have a trial to get the end effect ?

Yeah, I think I might have to just give it a go - interested to see if anyone's tried it before; I think it's one of those things that could be awesome, or go horribly, horribly wrong and trash the kitchen in the process Smiley tongue

I believe any DIY project is worth a go, even if it goes wrong and you have to go for plan B!

I havent seen these before but they look really nice.

Just be careful with the plaster crackling and also test and try varnishing them for a more professional glossy look.

    Good luck!

Thanks! Yes, I was going to play around with lacquers and colours if it works. Looks like I'll be getting messy this weekend. Smiley laugh

Right - bought 3 plastic flowers from Wilko and ordered a 500g bag of crystacast r, which is a harder plaster than normal plaster of paris.

Will let you know how I get on! Smiley smile

Thanks! Hoping the plaster turns up tomorrow, otherwise it'll be a Monday night job - either way, I want to try it out soon!
The plaster I bought can have pigment mixed into it, so if I'm successful, I can go crazy with colours! Smiley laugh
