Playlist

Chidders, 16 June, 2011 at 13:05 Posted on Planning 0 20

We are swaying towards doing our own music playlist for the wedding, and though obviously our tastes will show through, I would like a variety of music so there will be something for everyone.

So could you Hitchers do me a favour please. Could you tell me the top 5 songs you would like to hear at a wedding?

Hi i have asked on the back of my rsvp's for people to name 3 of their favourite songs if they want to. Not everyone has filled in all three spaces but it has really helped towards our playlist. Could you maybe do something like this?

Chidders - I can understand why you may say that, but trust me when I say - it can be very embaressing indeed. The wedding pictures WILL prove this at some point.

As someone suggested, the best way to compile a playlist is to ask your guests. I have some sure fire floorfillers...that occasionally bomb! Each group of guests is different. Until the night, its difficult to predict what will get everyone going and staying on the dance floor.

As a DJ, I'll play one of the brides tunes, and if it works well, I choose a couple more of a similar genre. If the playlist is too prescribed you can't do this. Also some people will pick a great tune... but its more what you'd listen to on your ipod than dance to.... and they could be the only person in the room that likes it!

Playlists are great to give the DJ an idea of the bride and grooms tastes, but there needs to be some flexibility there to allow the DJ to use his skills.

1 - Rock the Casbah by The Clash

    2 - PYT - Michael Jackson

3 - That LMFAO one - love it

4 - Anything by Madness - faves One Step Beyond or Baggy Trousers

    5 - Something by UB40 - Red Red wine or Kingston Town...well..anything!

all of the above never EVER fail to have me cutting some serious shapes!

    We're so tempted to have a proper dancefest, so here's a sample of our list! ;
(Luckily it's a popular choice with about 80% of our guests as none of them are in free bus pass territory yet)
It's not to everyone's taste, but I much preferable to the awful, generic cr*p played at most weddings. I'm loving that our DJ agrees!!!

Indigo - Perfect Day (Almighty Anthem Club Mix)

Manian - Ravers In The UK

    Jason Derulo - Whatcha Say

Kato - Are You Gonna Go My Way (Ti-Mo Remix Edit)

    Gigi D'Agostino - I'll Fly With You

PS; I'll be so impressed if anyone knows all of these!

I completley agree with Sandy on this point, it is almost impossible for proffesional ~Wedding DJs to pre-empt the music choice of any party before the night although being prepared always helps and getting guests requests can be a good way to go, just make sure you do not end up with 3 hours of slow music which seems to happen a lot with guest requests.

Have a look at the 2 videos on our site here

    http://www.greenclaws.co.uk/230411_welcombe.htm

There are 2 videos on the right hand side which uses a 20 - 30 second clip from almost every song played at a particualr Wedding. It shows an eclestic mix of music and will hopefully give you some ideas.

Specifically with dancing in mind here are some ideas:

    Aerosmith - Walk this way

Queen - Dont stop me now

MC Hammer - you can't touch this

Cool and the Gang - Ladies night

Wham - I'm your man, Wake me up before you go, Club tropicana

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen

    Beyonce - Crazy in Love

Tiffany - I think were alone now

    The Proclaimers - 500 Miles

Bon Jovi - Livin on a Prayer

Bryan Adams - Summer of 69

Guns and Roses - Sweet Child of Mine

    Blur - Song 2

Lynard Skynard - Sweet Home Alabama
Jackie Wilson - Higher & Higher (Your love keeps lifting me)
    The Grease Megamix
Katrina & The Waves - Walking On Sunshine
    Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar
    The Monkees - I'm A Believer
Andy Williams - Can't Take My Eyes Off You
    The Commitments - Mustang Sally
    Take on Me - A-ha

Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison

Boogie Wonderland - Earth, Wind & Fire

Stuck in the middle with you - Stealers Whe

Kiss - Tom Jones / Prince

    B52s - Loveshack
    Kenny Loggins - Footloose
You're the First, My Last, My Everything--Barry White

    Kung fu fighting

    Play that funky music

A mixture there but they are the ones that came into my head that I would dance like mad to at a wedding. We are putting song requests in our invitations which I have literally just made today, specifically saying 'the songs that will get us up and dancing at the wedding are ......' for guests to then write a few suggestions. This way we hope to avoid too many slow songs or songs which are more a sit down and listen to it rather than dance. I would definitely suggest you do this as it can be so helpful in getting a playlist together.

    Little flash for you:
