Please dress me... Update

I am going to a wedding in a fortnight and have been going through my wardrobe, gawd I'm a small hippo now and cant fit half my stuff......

I have a few dresses id wear but a belt with them (and they need one) gives me that fat hips syndrome..so I thought id aim for a skirt and top instead.

I have a skirt I bought a year ago which is quite 50s-esque and was going to get a net petticoat from ebay but now i'm trying to find a top to go (in black). Might wear black shoes or red shoes.

Now I dont know whether to go for a blouse or a t-shirt top (square neck kinda thing) see pics below for what I mean.

skirt is extrememly similar to this one, despite buyin it from new look a year ago, and is cream and black, http://www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=true&catalogId=33053&storeId=12552&categoryId=212621&parent_category_rn=208660&productId=1731811&langId=-1 and comes with a black patent elastic belt.

I have a similar frilled blouse in black satin and I have a square neck t-shirt with capped sleeves, but any other suggestions are welcome.

UPDATE! have changed my mind about the skirt and toying with a lace skirt I have which has a champagne lining, I bought it about 2 years ago and it seems to be popular again, (lace over nude/champagne). So looking for a top to wear. A lace top with a lace skirt would be too much wouldnt it???

bought a lovely pair of 'mink' shoes in debs sale yesterday which I was going to wear with it, maybe..... lol.

I think I'd go for the square neck tee or the top on the left - I just think a blouse will look too worky iyswim?

I agree about the blouse being a bit 'worky' but it could look good with the right accessories. Of the two, I'd go for the square cut top but I'd be tempted to go for something a little bit dressier, like

The blouse isnt as fussy as the one pictured, doesnt button right up for example and in the black satin its very dressy but I get your point....

that Maxime top is just perfect flutterbye but i refuse to spend that much money on a top, pheweyyyy!! I have my matalan black square neck tee and was going to wear with a red silk neckerchief that the bride gave me... i'll keep looking for tees i just wish that coast one wasnt 45 bucks!!!

I love the look of the maxime top too, am half tempted to get it for myself. I have a similar one from Coast which I splashed out on a few years ago (it's v-neck with no sleeves, but the same ruched material) and it's one of the most useful tops I own. It isn't 'fashionable' so will last for years, and dresses anything up so is great for emergency outfits!

I like the sound of the red silk neckerchief and a black top, with red shoes too and a chunky red bracelet would be very nice ?

Awww geordie thank you for going to all that trouble, its really appreciated. However, the vests are all quite long on me and they arent very 50s looking.... I am loving that corset top for the helluva it but i dont think it would work in my size 16 frame! I'm going to go have a look around the shops today coz if i find something I'll then buy the netting off ebay....... orrrrrrr i'll wear another skirt that i have which some of those tops you've posted would go really well with!

i'll report back with any news, thanks so much girls!
