Please help - computer techie people

I have a PC connected to the internet via a cable modem - its BT broadband but I have to "dial up". Its old and I dont think it has wi-fi capability

Today I bought a laptop and I'd love it to be wireless. I do have a homehub (still in its box). I also have 2 BT telephone points.

My question is: can I leave the PC modem plugged into one phone socket, and connect the homehub to the other socket?

If not, can I simply unplug the modem from the back of the PC and just plug in straight into the laptop to connect it to the internet?

Thanks for any help

I don't think you can sadly...if its like ntl, the modem or hub is registered to your account....I doubt it would work with an additional unit☹️

Hi, Sounds a lot like you are using an old USB modem.

You should use the Homehub, it has wireless built in to it and you should be able to follow the destructions which will sort it. I believe you will be able to plug your PC into the Hub also using a network cable which should have come with the Hub.

You should just scrap the modem, it's not required if you have the Homehub at all. You aren't going to get anything out of connecting one ot each socket.

If you plan on getting the Internet on more than one computer the old modem won't work for that at all it can only connect one PC at once.

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare but it should make a lot more sense as you're doing it.

    Thanks for your help guys.

It all sounds a bit complicated for me (technophobe) - I think I'll have to get a man in, thankfully one of my friends dates an IT guy - I'll throw myself on his mercy
