Please help me choose the colour for flower girls :(

Sarah67, 12 May, 2012 at 19:18 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi ladies the colour for our wedding is going to be Royal Blue as it is a June wedding next year. I have 4 bridesmaids and 2 flower girls. The first 2 BM's will be both 46 and in one style of dress, the next 2 will be 26 and 13 and again in the royal blue but a slightly different style. Next come the flower girls who will be 8 and nearly 3. My question is should I have them both in Ivory dresses that come just above the ankle of also in the royal blue ? My first thought was the Ivory but my head is spinning now and now not so sure ?

How about ivory with a royal blue sash? I think a solid dark colour could swamp your littlies.

Do you know what style you want for your FGs? Could you have ivory dresses with a blue sash or blue detailing? I have seen some quite nice ones that are ivory at the top, but a coloured skirt with ivory tulle over the top that bring some colour into them, but still makes them different to big BMs.

I would go with what others have said; an ivory dress with a matching blue sash

I prefer ivory for flower girls and no sashes as I don't like all the matchy matchiness...unless it's in a more neutral or subtle colour. If anything give them a coloured hair accessory or shoes. As for laynarose's comment about babying an 8 year old I don't agree. My just turned 11 year old niece is a flower girl with my 4 year old niece and she is over the moon! I let her choose her dress as I didn't mind what she wore and she has taste anyway.

Or an ivory tulle skirt with the royal blue top? Amanda Wakeley do a beautiful range that have the same fabrics but one dress for the grown ups, a similar version with straps for a grown up child and another version for the flower girls.

If it helps, I had 1 BM and 1 FG (well actually 1 MOH and 1 FG  ) the MOH/BM was in pale pink, the FG wore ivory with a pale pink sash. Both dresses were different (as the FG's we had made, the MOH wore one she already had) - I think the FG will look great in Ivory, with a blue sash or some other "blue" accessory - maybe a blue flower in their hair?

    Hey Sarah67!

I haven't got any flower girls for my wedding but my mate does. Her colour scheme is gold. Her wedding dress is ivory and bridesmaids are gold but the little flower girl is in ivory with golden bits on it....it wouldnt look right to dress the little girls in blue colours I think. Have a look on BHS website they have some gorgeous flowergirl dresses and will give you an idea of what I mean. That's where my friends got her girls's dresses from!

I disagree about the 8 year year old feeling babied, our flowergirls were 4 and 11 and both wore the same and they looked lovely and were both happy with what they wore. I went with ivory, I had ivory sashes too, I brought the other BM's colours in by having a little black ribbon on the FG's posies. Heres a couple of pics from the day to give you an idea how it works.(I had a chief bridesman instead of bridesmaid incase you are wondering who the guy is!)
