Please help me find some motivation..

Ali_G, 10 October, 2014 at 09:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

I can't seem to find any anywhere!

I *need* to lose a stone for Christmas. Just 14 measley little pounds. It's not like I want to lose 1000 lbs, just 14 small ones.

But I can't find any motivation - and I keep eating sweets and chocolate.

Does anyone have some motivation they could offer me?

I'm in the same boat Ali - I cannot go into yet another xmas heavier than the previous one!

I'm currently examining what I eat and how much exercise and I plan to make small changes on a daily basis. For example, I have porridge, fruit and a mocha coffee for brekkie - tomorrow, I'm cutting out that coffee and will replace with Green Tea. On Sunday, for lunch, will add more veggies and do an extra 10 mins on my walk and so on. Just one or two teeny changes per day. I'm keeping a log of it too so I can re-examine it on a daily basis. My biggest problem tends to be the snacking I do in the evening after work so I'm trying to change that by having some seeds/nuts in a bag that I can pick on slowly and not inhale a jumbo choccie bar.

Not sure if that helps but I know if I go to a diet club, it will be wasted money as I won't keep it up, I just know I won't!

The only thing that works for me is pointing, counting, recording everything, weekly weigh ins. I can keep this up for a minimal time on my own but best results come from attending fat club.

I hate fat club though, everything about it, mostly the fact that I have to pay for it.

I lost over 3 stone on Weightwatchers two years ago - and I've only gained half a stone since then, so generally, I'm not doing too bad. But still, I shouldn't have gained those 7lbs at all, especially as I wasn't at my "goal" weight to begin with!

Gah. Someone needs to make chocolate illegal.

The only way I managed to lose the last bit of baby weight was by going to Slimming World. I knew I didn't have enough motivation to do it alone, but if I was being weighed by someone else, I had to stick to it.

I lost weight for the wedding as I'd bought my dress 2 sizes too small. Could you buy yourself an amazing party dress for Christmas in a smaller size?

Come on!!! We can do it!! I have been dragging my lazy arse to 3 classes a week (step class, pilates and bums tums and thighs) and if I can haul my lazy ass out of bed on a saturday morning, believe me, you can too!!!

My biggest downfall is portion control and wine. Writing everything down on myfitnesspal really helps with this, though.

I am trying to be more active in general at home, trying not to sit down straight away when I get in with a nice brew and a cat cuddle but dumping my bags, and going straight into the garden and playing with the cats and running up and down the stairs loads like a crazy person.

What helps me is if I set myself really tiny goals. e.g. if I go up and down the stairs 20 times, I can sit for 30 mins and watch 'she found the gown'

I also can't go into xmas weighing this or I'll come out of it needing airlifting of the sofa!!!

I'm struggling too. I managed to lose over a stone before the wedding then took three weeks off. Now I'm trying to get back into it but can't find the get up and go!

i've started by trying to re-establish my yoga routine and not worrying too much about food, just cutting out the snacking in between meals for now.

little changes may be the way to go!

I have no motivation at all I'm afraid. I was fine at the beginning of the year, but I think as the wedding grows closer I just create imaginary pressure on myself (well, some of the pressure is real from my mother, the rest I have made up) and that messes everything up. Last week I was having a massive panic that my dress won't fit, but yesterday I had to literally say to myself "you're getting married in three months, stop putting food in your mouth". Would I dream of talking like that to any other human? No. I dunno why I do it to myself.

Do you have a games console? I use Xbox One fitness and it's absolutely fantastic. I love it so much I work out quite a few times a week - Never thought I would say that! I know that the other consoles do fitness games but I'm not sure which the best ones are.

I like Knees suggestion of a smaller dress as motivation or perhaps a reward scheme - if you lose 2 lbs per week, you buy yourself something (not food!). I might do this.

I have a Wii Fit Plus and, when I do motivate myself to get on it, I love it. It's just getting on it that's the problem.....!

You could have a tiered reward system like a nail polish for 2lb, a lipstick for 5lb, a top for 10lb etc.

Has anyone tried those goal websites - the ones where you pledge each week to do something and pledge a money amount - say £1. If you don't meet whatever goal you have set you lose the £1 but if you do meet it you get a share of the £1s pledged by others. The thought being that if you lay money on the line to others you are more likely to achieve your goals.

One of the websites was https://www.stickk.com/tour.php. I can see the basis of it but am too scared to join. Maybe we could do our own pledge fat club?!

I like Knees idea of graded rewards. I am terrified of not fitting into my wedding dress, yet still I sat and ate a load of chocolate covered coffee beans yesterday. I just can't stop myself. The more stressed I'm getting the more I eat and the more stressed it's making me!

My former housemate had an xbox and wii fit and I used to use it, but I quickly got irritated with it. "Try to make your movements more lively!" F*** off.

The reward system wont work for me. I'm a shop-a-holic. If I want something, I go out and buy it. Whether I've achieved something or not.

I like the idea of losing money if I don't achieve it though, that might be the only incentive that works!

I had a dress fitting 5 weeks ago and was horrified that I had back fat!

i too like my sweets and goodies but am rubbish with will power.

so it was time for action. Ate healthily, cut out all alcohol during the week but allowed myself a little treat every day.

result!! Had final fitting yesterday and dress is perfect!

going to keep it up as we go on honeymoon 2 months after wedding!

finally weighed myself and have lost half a stone!!
