Please help me! We move house today

Eleda, 14 April, 2008 at 07:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

And I've lost the plot. Well we sort of move - we've got the keys, and the removal men are coming for an hour to the new house to shift about some furniture. Then they're coming tomorrow to pack us up and moving it all in on Wednesday.
I feel I should be doing something, but I don't know what and I'm so stressed I can't think straight.

Please organise me! What should I be doing??

Have a cup of coffee then ..

Pack up anything precious or valuable ( including your laptop ?).

Do you have little stickers to stick on things?, do that too.

    What Cariad said.

Have you got drinks to hand and a kettle? Something for lunch? Have you got things for overnight for the next couple of days till you get completely moved?

Take a few minutes just to wander round your house and check that everything is dismantled that you are taking (curtain poles, lampshades etc) Also your garden, plant pots, garden tools, ornaments etc.

Tis natural to be stressing! I will be in your shoes next week, so know how you are feeling. Good luck with the move!

Put tea/coffee/sugar/milk and biccies and the kettle in a seperate box and mark it up.

    read your meters

    and relax.

Having moved several times in the past few years when a company are doing it, its always been almost painless.

oh.. if you have anything you don't want them to individually wrap in tissue and box (in the bedroom etc) I'd do that before they arrive?

Read meters of new house and phone suppliers.

Get telephone connected to new house.

Where will you stay tonight? Wherever you stay you will need stuff overnight and something to eat in the morning. Bedding/nightclothes/wash stuff/food.

    Valuables?

Do you need any more sets of keys cut for the new place?

Do you need to change the locks?

I like moving. How exciting! ?

Thanks everyone. I just went over to the house and it was meant to have a full clean at the weekend, and although it's better than it was, it's still dusty in areas, and the carpets need cleaning. I'm back at our house now, so I'm going to pack anything personal/private and take that in my car.

The sticky labels thing is a great idea cos I've got to separate what's going into storage and what's coming in with us. I just can't believe it's all happening!?
