Please help my yummy mummy!!

Doddyclaire, 25 April, 2013 at 22:27 Posted on Planning 0 23

I just don't know where else to turn, but we have been searching and not finding the perfect outfit for my mother. Everything "Mother of the bride" seems so dowdy and frumpy for her, I know, I know, she will be 70 but she is young at heart and does not want to wear a three piece outfit in lilac - no offense to those that do!! We have exhausted the high streets, she's a petite build which isn't helping our search i'm sure. And she is looking for something with cap sleeves, maybe lace, she lights bright colours and something fairly fitted.

I've suggested we try a made to measure but she thinks the price will be horrific!!

Any of you lovely ladies got any fab suggestions please?

To give you hints, she fell in love with a Gerry Weber dress with hummingbirds on it, so nothing tame would do!!!

Thankin you in advance!!

DC xx

Next and Wallis have some lovely dresses in their petite section. Being small myself I know what a struggle it can be!

Jacques Vert do MOTB outfits, haven't looked tbh as my mum will find something comfy she likes her own way like she did for my sisters.

Sounds just like my gorgeous mother!!! She will be 65 next week and someone actually mistook her for being my older sister the other day lol! (I'm not 40 yet so was a little offended but we'll pleased for her haha)

Mum was really struggling to find anything striking within budget then I came across this beauty in isme:

She ordered it, it arrived the next day and bobs your uncle! Trouble is, she has now spent twice as much again on shoes, hat and handbag but she phoned me excitedly this evening to squeal how chuffed she is with it all. There may be something suitable for your yummy mummy in somewhere like this? Xx

    Has she looked at Condici?

My mam is petite and got a gorgeous bright pink outfit. Pics in the report link in my signature if you fancy a gander.

I can believe this. My friend's mum took weeks/months to find hers and in the end just picked something. She looked lovely though so it all worked out for the best.

I'm hoping to do a full shopping day with my mum and maybe book with a department store's personal shopper as my mum has lost a lot of weight over the past couple of years so she needs to dress for a whole new shape so she needs advice on what suits her shape now.

Have you looked in Hobbs? They have lots of colour matching shoe, bags etc so the outfit still looks matching but without it being a 3 piece thing. I had the exact same thing with my mum and not wanted a MOB-looking outfit. Was dubious about Hobbs but the fit is so nice that it is really fashionable (I sort of want my mums dress after the wedding!!)

I have the opposite problem with my mum. She's convinced she's too fat and old (she's size 14 and 64) to wear anything fancy so I'm going to show her these ideas too Smiley smile She's always sold herself short and dresses way older than her age so hopefully these links will inspire her!

This is my mum's outfit. She was adamant that she wanted a proper "mother of the bride" outfit, rather than something from the high street, but she found, like you, that a lot were really frumpy.

My Mummy is Yummy too - she is 65 and still rocking the jeans, court shoes, collar-up white shirt vibe!!

I agree with LilMissBusyBride, there are some lovely things in Hobbs and also Phase Eight but as you say you've raked the high street Im sure you'll have looked here.

I love the Condici styles too, and these https://johncharles.co.uk/collection/ (do scroll right down as the 'younger' styles seem to be lower down!)

Failing that, we have a Kaliko near us and i dont think there are many around but they have nice things and you might like some of those?

L.K.Bennett have some beautiful dresses. My friends Mum (also petite) got her Mother of the bride outfit from here very recently and it is stunning.

Yep, John Charles and Ian Stuart are mums fave MOB designers by a mile..... Then she saw the price tags *gulp*

Even in the sale in our bridal shop, they were coming in well more expensive than my Maggie wedding dress! :0o

Has she looked in phase eight? My mum got a lovely outfit from there, not at all frumpy and in hot pink.

My Mum was more difficult than I was at finding something!

We trawled round all the high street shops and in the end she found something from a little independant store

My mum was adament she didnt want to do the 'traditional' mother of the bride thing as well. Shes only in her late 40's as well.

As she dosent like wearing dresses she decided to go for some palazzo pants with a smart top.

i think she's going to look brilliant - shes very tall so these pants look really good.
