Please share your mackerel recipes

lyni, 14 August, 2009 at 15:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I have got this out for dinner tonight, but have never actually eaten it before and therefore never cooked it either!

What's best to have with it, and how best to cook it?

TIA

We usually bung it in the microwave (should say how long on the packet) and then serve over baby potatoes, rocket, any other salad you fancy and drizzle with lemon and olive oil.

Others may come along with less healthy suggestions though!

I heart mackerel. Usually just pan-fry fillets in a v hot pan with a tiny bit of oil for about three minutes on the skin side and a minute on the other side - it needs no more than that. It's nicest when the skin is crisp and a tiny bit burnt. Serve with salsa verde and potatoes. Yum.

    Yuuuuuummmmm, I love mackerel.

I stuff it with peelings of lemon rind, crushed garlic and parsley then grill it for about 8 mins (ish)

We have grilled mackerel with a big bowl of mixed salad and hot new potatoes or crusty bread.

I buy fresh, finely dice onion and mushroom and fry, then stuff the mackarel, add a couple of slices of fresh lemon, place in foil and wrap loosely. Bake for 20 mins. Fresh parsley.

Serve with new potatos and/or brocolli/green beans etc.

I do a Rick Stein devilled mackerel, although off the top of my head, I can't remember exactly what you need. I'm pretty sure it is stuff like cumin, paprika & a bit of salt & pepper, maybe some chili - grill for a couple of minutes each side and serve with tomato & onion salad and potatoes. Lovely!

I get a fab smoked mackerel from the farmers market (when the smoked fish man is there - <stalker>Sophie you must buy from him next time you go </stalker>

mash up the fish with cream cheese, creme fresh, lemon juice, s&p, chill & enjoy!
