    ?

My dress is actually NOT a plus size dress, but is worn by an average model in the pictures. Thats partly why i've been having such worries about it on me. As soon as I have photos of me in it I will flash, I'm also wearing it with a lace bolero. Here's the model for now though:

This is exactly my worry with the one I want !!

This is a model in the one I want and TBH I don't think the model does the dress any justice as she is too skinny for it.

I've seen other B2B post photos in their dresses along side the model pic and IMO often the dress fits them better for that exact reason.

They are both beautiful dresses and will look even better with real women in them. The models are nothing more than clothes hangers. Those styles are crying out for curves.

    Fab dresses ladies!

You look great Aecy, is that the Cinderella dress?

We need more flashes of 'real' plus-size brides!! I'm trying my dress on a week this Saturday so will flash me in mine then!

For now this is my dress:

I love how it's ok to insult slim women ? I would have thought as a plus size curvy 'real' woman you would be more sensitive to these types of insults that you are carelessly throwing around.

Other than that some gorgeous dresses on here ladies!

Forgive me if I'm wrong / got the wrong impression, but I took this to be more on an insult (rightly or wrongly) to models more than slim woman! EBB said the dress would look better on a 'real woman' with 'curves' this can be a size 10 or a size 20 woman!! I mentioned on DWC's thread curvy and plus size are 2 very different things!

I do have to agree with EBB, it's been mentioned in several other dress threads, including from 'slim' woman, that the models do the dresses no justice and they look much better on 'real' women!

So what size is a real woman then? Threads like this really p me off. The models in those pictures are a size 6/8- are they not real women? Embrace bridal a find your coathanger comment very rude. I would never call an overweight model in a picture 'fat', especially not on a plus size dress thread! Why exactly is it ok to say someone is too skinny for a dress? Perhaps that then makes it ok for someone to say that a bride is to fat for a dress on a thread?! Where is aj when you need him?!

Who the hell is aj?? I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets a bit pissed off with these sorts of comments. I think it takes a lot more than size to be a real woman. Missy Lou I agree with some of what you are saying but my point remains that EBB is insulting other women based in their size yet she has set up a shop specifically for plus size women who must have been on the receiving end of insults at some point in their life! So surely she should have some understanding? There is prejudice for women at both ends of the scale, and most skinny people can't do anything about their size, (and why should they if they're healthy?) it's worth remembering that.

I absolutely agree with Mini and Nicalf08.

I would love to have curves, but I am hoping that I still look ok in my wedding dress. I see loads of posts on here about big boobs and curves, but it's just not something I've been blessed with, so comments like this really irritate me.

I don't think it's about what size you/the models are, it's about proportions. I remember the beach scene in The Inbetweeners movie where the "bigger" girl strips down to her bikini and feeling jealous as she's gorgeous and hourglass shaped. It's fine to promote curvy ladies, but don't bash the non-curvy ones

I think its worth pointing out that this thread is primarily aimed at those looking for re-assurance as they are needing/having "plus size dresses" regardless to whether its due to having curves or being size 16/18 + and not aimed at trying to pee people off that don't fall into this category.

We are all different shapes and size and this is the point that the industry is missing !! My experience of dress shopping is that you can generally only find certain styles in certain sample sizes, so therefore the industry as a rule.... does not cater for all their customers needs.

Whilst I appreciated that "slimmer" or "less curvy" might find these threads annoying, I also think the fact that there is more threads regarding their opposites speaks for itsself ! ie..larger woman have more problems relating to their dresses.

And as for this - "most skinny people can't do anything about their size, (and why should they if they're healthy?) it's worth remembering that."

(Playing devils advocate here) Well who is generalising now ? A) some overweight people can not do anything about their size as it might be due to medical/genetic issues and B) If I was to be picky I could say that it implies that "skinnier" people are healthier ? well this is simple not the case many (but not inclusively!) have or get healthy problems due to their lack of weight.

When all said and done this is a forum where you'll find all manner of opinions based on an individuals' preferences and experiences and they definitely wont all be expressed in political correct terms this does not mean they are intended to cause offence.

Im sorry you find my comments insulting, I had no intention of upsetting anybody. My point is that the fashion business, be it wedding or otherwise has always treated "plus sized" as something wrong. Models are skinny, mannequins are skinny, images in magazines are skinny, samples are skinny. Who has been prejudiced against there?

"real women" come in all shapes and sizes but they are not airbrushed, photoshopped, made up to the 9's and appear as something they are not. Every bride has the right to be beautiful and this thread is about giving confidence to those who do not fit into the fashion industries idea of "perfect".

Can you honestly say that you have never seen a bigger woman, wearing whatever, and not commented that "she is too big for that, shouldnt be wearing it, needs to eat less cake??"

Take a look at how many wedding dress shops are in the UK, then have a guess at how many of them have samples in bigger sizes (and I dont mean are ABLE to get dresses in bigger sizes) I mean physically having samples in the shop that are a size 16 and above, that brides can try on. ISNT THAT THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE OF RETAIL PREJUDICE THAT YOUVE SEEN??

Your not the only ones that get mad you know and I am actually shaking with anger right now. If your the kind of woman that cannot put weight on then you are probably in the same sort of situation as a woman who finds it difficult to lose weight but the whole point is your other half loves you, he probably doensnt want you to be any other well so why the hell put pressure on yourself to fit in a dress for 1 day of your life that is a false image of YOU! If that is your choice then fine but not everybody can manage that and if a "plus sized" bride wants the dress of her dreams then it is nobodys right to tell her she cant have it.

    AARRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH???

You of all people must know that shops simply can't have every dress in every size? They go with the average which is 12-14 - of course it's going to be a squeeze on a bigger person and similarly they look ridiculous on anyone smaller than that size - you don't hear us whining about it.

Actually I think you will find an average dress size in the UK is a 16 so surely in wedding dress sizes this must be an 18/20?

All we have been trying to say on this thread is that's ok NOT to be average size and to reassure other girls that they are not alone when going through the drama of trying on wedding dresses,

My first experience was a disaster and one that I have tried to forget. I'm not sure that unless you have been through this you can really appreciate what it's like to be squeezed into dresses that are far too small for you whilst the girl next door was having to be padded out into her size 12. Let me tell you it was soul destroying. What should have been one of the most enjoyable experiences of getting married led to me spending the whole afternoon sobbing my heart out.

So come on lighten up and let us just share the positives of some of the girls finding dresses that they love.

As a plus size bride myself, i am dreading having to go out and try on dresses as i dont want to have to squeexe into something smaller, i dont do that when i go out shopping for clothes so why should i have to do it when buying the most expensive piece of clothing i wille very buy. this thread as lost its point along the way through other discussions, but the start of it and knowing there are dresses out there is a comfort to me and i look forward to seeeing other plus size brides flashing pics of themselves in their dresses to give the other plus size brides confidence if they need it.

    Zoomo13,

I'm not sure where abouts you are based but can I suggest locating a Plus sized shop for the first dress session.

I'm sure some of the other brides on this thread could recommend some.

I'm actually having my dress made by a dressmaker which is working out slightly cheaper than the shops but not much but it means I can have exactly the design and style I want.

Good luck and keep us posted with how you get on.

Oh no this thread has made me incredibly sad ? I didn't post the link to the plus size blog to say 'look at these "real" women' I posted it because I know i am insecure about being a plus size bride and i thought it might help some of the other girls around here who I know also feel a bit insecure and unsure about themselves. ALL women have issues with their bodies, whether you're a size 6 or a size 16 or a size 26. I know a hitcher of old who has terrible body hang ups and she is teeny tiny and simply stunningly gorgeous. I didn't mean for anyone to be offended by seeing a plus size brides thread, I intended for us to boost each other's confidence.

As far as I am concerned there is a massive difference between 'Curvy' and Curvy. The speech marks denote a polite way of saying plus size, but you don't need to be plus sized to be curvy, and you don't need to be curvy to be plus sized. On the blog I posted there were women whom I wouldn't consider plus size, but obviously consider themselves plus sized and who wanted to show off their photos on the blog. Either way they were all beautiful. In the same way the models are also real women, just with a different body shape. That doesn't mean to say we should criticise the models. If anything we should criticise the modelling teams who put the photos shoots together, they could easily style the shoots with one or two different models and show dresses in different sizes across their ranges to show that ANY bride can wear the dresses. Its the wedding industry and the fashion industry with the inherent problem of body hang ups. Seeing the same model in every single eternity bridal dress, beautiful and slim, has worried me that my dress just won't look right on ME, not her! I've said before i think the dress looks better on me than on her, but it was meant in a 'need to boost my own confidence' kind of way, not to get at the model, who is beautiful.

We shouldn't turn on each other about it. Please lets just support each other here, we're all brides, nervous of either looking too skinny, too fat, too wobbly. Nervous of being the centre of attention because we have problem skin, or our hair does its own thing on a daily basis. Girls on this thread who have flashed their plus size dresses are supportive of any other bride who has dress wobbles, no matter what their size. It would be nice if we didn't pick at each other and instead just supported those girls who are unsure, no matter who it is or what their dress size is.

The difference here is that normal clothes are bought off the peg, wedding dresses are ordered in. It would be a waste of money to stock dresses in every size.

FWIW, it doesn't matter what shape or size a bride is. On her wedding day, she will never look more beautiful.

DWC - sorry for hijacking your thread, I didn't have an issue at all with the whole plus size thing and the issues you all face and I think it's great you can all chat on here about any worries. It was purely the comment from EBB that riled me because i thought it was insensitive that's all. Don't be sad! And yes I totally understand what you mean, anyone of any size is sure to have body hang ups unless you have a figure like Kelly brook for example! I have my fair share that's for sure ?

Here is my dress. My dress was ordered in a size 24 (even though i was a size 20 at the time). When the dress arrived, i had to have it taken in by about 4 inches. When i tried the sample on, it was only a size 14 and was just above my ankle (great look ?). It wasnt bothered about the size "24" being ordered because i knew i wasnt that size. I am happy most of the time about my size and would like to get back to my wedding weight but like Nicalf08 said, i think most people have some sort of body hang up.

I don't think its just plus sized women who face issues with dresses, but i think women who are larger have less choice in terms of dresses that give the appropriate amount of support, room to manoeuvre etc The dress lady has said she doesn't think i'll need a bra with the dress, but i think I will. As much as its corseted I know i hate not wearing a bra and i will be conscious of it. I think larger girls often have that worry that the wedding industry don't understand the body issues faced by them.

Dwc please don't be sad, the whole purpose of your thread I hope has been achieved and if there were ladies who were plus sized (fwiw I think that term is horrid) feel a bit calmer or more confident about them in thier dresses. My point was that its no more right to say someine is skinny and a coat hanger than it is too say they are fat or lardy or whatever? As a skinny person I am constantly having to justify my weight to everyone, perfect strangers will find it ok to comment on what I eat in a restaurant,if I eat a bar of chocolate at work I have people nudging each other 'oh where does she put it all?!' Etc. To the lady who was upset that the girl in the next cubicle had to be padded into her dress and was upset? That could have happened to you in any shop anywhere. I was really upset that out of lots of the dresses I tried on my 'coathanger' frame couldn't hold it up. I looked like a boy! Fwiw ladies who have posted pics of themselves you look lovely, some fab dresses Smiley smile

Mini I hear ya with the comments, I'm getting increasingly wound up by people telling me I'm too skinny and need to put weight on, it's no less damaging than someone telling you to lose weight. I wouldn't dream of telling someone anything like it, their body their life!
