Mini - My issue was not so much the girl next to me but the fact that the shop had lied to me about stocking samples that would fit me.

They were asked on 3 different occasions.

I totally understand. I hope you know you're gorgeous?! I think anybody who comments on anyone else's body is incredibly rude, no matter what the comment is. I've had comments from people in public who don't even KNOW me who have called me fat etc. I know i'm overweight but I happen to be blessed with an hourglass figure thank god and whilst being overweight isn't right, the curves are in the right place IYSWIM? That didn't stop two burly builders calling me a hippo as I walked past, an elderly man in a pub telling me I was a 'big girl, good for babies and doing the washing' (not so much calling me fat but not the best compliment either!) or kids telling me i'm fat and ugly when I have done teaching placements in primary schools. I imagine you can be just as hurt by comments on being skinny as I have been by all the fat comments.

The only person I want to hear comments from is my future husband, and as far as I am concerned he is the only person who has the right to say anything to me, complimentary or otherwise as he is the one that sees me starkers every day.

I think and hope this is kind of done now as it would be nice for it to return as a thread for flashing pictures of plus-sized brides in their dresses!

I just wanted to quickly explain what I meant, by 'real' women I didn't mean that as some sort of derogatory term. I simply mean it to mean your average girl, someone who's not a celebrity or a model etc (it is hard to define what I mean!) but as in someone who's not been styled and airbrushed to within an inch of their life! And 'real' women do of course come in all shapes and sizes! I agree that coat-hanger was probably not the best term to have used lol

But to stand by what I said that it's been mentioned in several other threads, including from slim women, that the models do the dresses no justice and they look better on 'real' women (I need to find another term here lol) I.e. Mini you looked FAB in your dress but I'm sure it didn't look as nice in the 'official' picture of it, I know mine doesn't, not saying it looks better on me but I use a picture I found on the net of someone else wearing it that looks loads better!

Anyway to get this thread back to what it was....'Curvy' dress flashes here's me in a dress I tried on (not my actual dress though!)

wow - she looks great I only hope that I can look half as good, and yes its a Mori Lee

At the moment I am wearing it without the straps - we felt that it took away from the detail at the top a bit.

Oh no! why? ☹️ It was never meant to make anyone feel down about themselves or worry. It was intended to do the opposite!

    Please don't be sad ☹️

Why... because it has made me paranoid that I will be judged in my dress. I am already body concious and terrified of wearing a dress!!

Society has made everyone paranoid about how they appear to others! The media beit magazines, television, cartoons or whatever seems to have stripped women of their confidence.

I suppose in that instace I am quite lucky- there are no other pics of models wearing my dress so I don't have a comparison- I never thought of that.

Have to say Nicalaf08- you look fab in that dress- why didn't you go for it?

    Just read through this post.

Its not about 'real' women, curvy etc blah blah

I'm a plus size bride and would love to see what other plus size brides are wearing.

There are loads and loads of pics of gorgeous slim brides but I would like to see more of the plus size brides so i can get an idea of what styles suit which bodyshape.

    Please keep posting!!

I'm possible going for this dress... just not keen on price

    Sorry for big pic!

"Take a look at how many wedding dress shops are in the UK, then have a guess at how many of them have samples in bigger sizes (and I dont mean are ABLE to get dresses in bigger sizes) I mean physically having samples in the shop that are a size 16 and above, that brides can try on. ISNT THAT THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE OF RETAIL PREJUDICE THAT YOUVE SEEN??"

It must be terribly inconvenient for plus size brides, but it is afterall keeping you in business.

I'm sorry this thread has made you feel this way. For what its worth I don't think you will be judged. And you're right the media has ruined self confidence etc for a lot of women. Don't worry about being in your wedding dress, your OH will think you will look beautiful, your parents will think you're beautiful and I bet every single person who see's your photos will just see a happy smiley bride. Everyone see's themselves differently to how the rest of the world see's them.

Im going to leave you to it ladies, as ive obviously been judged as just a money grabbing shop keeper.

However Im going to leave you with one last comment about why I feel so passionate about why every woman, regardless of size, shape, curves or lack of them, should have the right to a fabulous dress.

I spent 10 years with a man who loved me when I was the shape HE wanted me to be. He would choose my food in restaurants, cook my meals and call me repulsive to my face when I didnt look like he wanted me to. I yoyo dieted from a 12 to a 24 (I was a 16 when me married and now a 20 and proud). I decided to get out of this abusive relationship and his response was to hang himself.

So Im sorry if any of you took offence to my posts, I thought I was offering some support.

Take care, im sure you will always look gorgeous but I wont be commenting on anything ever again [:'(]

I am absolutely all for supporting ladies of all shapes and sizes in their dress hunt. I am not however, for insulting ladies of the opposite shape or size in the proccess.

Thank you, I absolutely love it!! Does wonders for my shape! Think I might get a bit of sparkle added onto the skirt just to make it that bit prettier. X

Thank you so much for lovely comments.

To be honest I couldn't tell you the designer of my dress, its my beautiful bargain! It's from the wedding dress factory outlet in Hinckley, saw it and loved it And knew it was the one!

Nic_Nic you look fab in that dress! It's beautiful. Sometimes it's not even just about your size, I'm 14/16 but I'm just an odd shape so finding a dress that suited all of me was a challenge. In the end I went for Mori Lee, their designs are lovely and even specialise in curvy women. I never would have thought this design would have suited me but I love it and feel great in it and that's what matters.
