plus size fashion help please (again!)

Gone With The Whinge, 8 April, 2009 at 11:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

I have a glam wedding to go to in May. I was hoping to get into some pre-baby stuff for it but despite losing weight, my body shape is so very different that nothing is flattering.

So - I am open to anything, pretty much, that is going to make me look a lot less matronly ? I am a tall size 22. I have big boobs and broad shoulders. My abdomen is the shape of an upside-down mushroom; straight down and then an explosion of deflated flesh ? - this is the bit that is causing me the most problems, I think. Bum - not too bad, all things considered. Legs - would really prefer to cover them up; I was 'blessed' with calves like Greek pillars. I wouldn't say I have bingo wings so much as bingo airspace. Colouring-wise, I have long red hair and fair skin. I'm 25. Budget up to about £100.

? muchly!

I've recently bought this http://www.newnow.co.uk/productcache/NNW/BO8566/QB482XL.html.gz which covers a multitide of sins and looks lovely on. It's also long enough which as I am tall as well as wide is a rare find!

I really like this although black probably not what you'd want for a wedding

This is nice too, you could wear it with a jacket or shrug type thing.,

Thank you both. I think I really need to stay away from jersey fabric as it likes to highlight my hip explosion. It clings in the wrong places. I also want to stay away from anything empire-line as it emphasises said problem - I end up with loads of loose fabric under the boobs, like a maternity top, and then an unsightly bulge. That said, I don't know how to get around that problem. Trousers and top/skirt, maybe? I just want to look my age instead of 45 ? I am liking the idea of green though.

Its difficult when you arent the shape they design clothes for. Sometimes empire or jersey can be fine, just hit and miss really isnt it. I saw a really nice green dress a while ago but cant find it now. I have started to do a long top/dress over trousers can get away with a shorter dress then but still hide the legs

Have you considered a good pair of magic pants that go up to under your bust? They will hold in the belly problems that you're having, and allow you to have a smoother outline regardless of what you're wearing. Just an idea?

I haven't, actually. I mostly just thought that like most useful pieces of clothing, they don't come in my size ? Can anyone reccommend any good ones, please?

This is ok until you want to go the loo ? Also i can't pull the holdy in thing up on my own and have to get H to do it for me which isn't good if you're at a wedding all day and have to ask your H to come to the loo with you.

I actually have that dress in blue, and I don't mind wearing it without trousers as it sits just below the knee.

I have a toddler. White trousers are the anti-Christ ?

Thanks again for all your suggestions, ladies. I am getting a better idea of what I want.

Well yes I did wonder re the trousers lol, I think in green would really suit your colouring, there are a few others that are a similar colour and they are all nice really.

I am quite tempted by this - a Monsoon number on ebay:

I could wear it with a shrug. I've got another dress in the same shape that is a good fit, and I could wear flats under it, hurrah! However, I can't help but think it'd be mumsy for a wedding at a funky art deco hotel...

Magic pants are fabulous! I am a size 18/20 and they really do hold everything in - not sure where it goes but if you get these - http://www.themagicknickershop.co.uk/site/1642934/product/032 - they go up under your bust (and you can fasten them onto your bra to prevent them rolling down) and down to your knees, so no bulges anywhere. I really rate the magic knicker shop, I'm always recommending them on here - but they are really helpful and have loads of suggestions about what to wear to help with your particularl problem. They're also the cheapest I've found.

I suggest going to Monsoon and having a look around - they have some fab posh dresses that aren't too mumsy, and float over your problem bits. Get the knickers first and then go for a trying on session.

PS with regard to loo visits, they have an appropriate opening for weeing. although (TMI) I suggest holding it open to make sure you don't wee on the material. You have to remove them for pooing though. ?

Step away from the bias-cut Monsoon dress !!! it's beautiful, but the way bias-cut fabric drapes is completely unforgiving. I think you should try the magic knickers option and then try on some more structured dresses for shape & fit. I also think green would be fab on you - especially an olive green.
