Plus sized clothes. Would you wear this?

WIseMonkey, 3 April, 2009 at 16:17 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 28

I'm all for fashionable plus size clothes. I am a fatty myself.

But what do you think of this top?

Would it ever look good on a woman with a belly on her? ?

http://www.evans.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=20554&storeId=12553&categoryId=162456&parent_category_rn=&productId=1092424&langId=-1

I have no fashion imagination at all. But there seems to be alot of comedy clothes for larger ladies on this site atm.

Star trek convention anyone?

Oh my, no I wouldnt wear that top or the dress (although I kinda like the look of it) I think Evans sometimes tries too hard to just do trendy stuff in larger sizes without thinking about what it actually would look like on a bigger person.

    WZS

I wouldn't wear either of those, and I'm a fairly in-proportion 12-14. I think both of those are best suited to willowy figures, and anyone with a bust bigger than a B cup should approach with caution.

I wouldnt either but then I am short and fat not just fat.

I was in Evans on saturday and thought a lot of the styles werent particularly suited to larger girls.

I also want to know why they assume that all fattys are tall.

Those would be grim on anyone. The top makes me imagine someone taking it off and being the same underneath, possibly in an unfunny sketch by those chaps from Gavin and Stacey.

    Knownowt, my thoughts exactly.

And i hate that alot of plain tops are those that gather under the bust like old fashioned maternity tops. So they pronounce my gutt even more.

Bleugh. Evans is always so disappointing (don't get me started on their tights!).

I prefer Next and Monsoon for plus-size fashion. If you can call it fashion ?

    Yuck.

I think Evans is dreadful, actually. I haven't really been in there before but went in to try to get some big tops to wear as maternity stuff (I'm now so lardy no one actually makes maternity clothes big enough for my pre-pregnancy "figure" let alone with bump ?) and it was diabolical. They were really going to town with the retro 80s electric blue stuff, that made everyone look as if they were dead in 1986 and isn't any better now. And nothing was at all flattering - either sacks, or scaled up versions of fashion stuff that's not going to look nice on anyone.

I still don't know where to buy clothes though [wail]

GWTW- I think NEXT has stopped their online plus size range. they did a section from size 22+ but it's not there now. I'm inbetween all sorts of sizes. 22-24 trousers and depending on the top around 24-28. Shame as i got some great jeans from that range and i need some more.

I've just had a look at next, the plus size section is still there. And most of the main section goes up to 20-22.

That top would look hideous on anyone.

I love the dress though, it's fantastic, but not sure it's for a fuller figure.

*sigh* that was one of the good things about being pregnant, not having to shop or look in Evans any more for clothes.

PL - I got my maternity stuff from Next or Simply Be online, also H&M I found very good too. And Asda in my first pregnancy, although they later stopped doing maternity and just started again about a month or so before I popped with Jonathan ?

Not plus size, but I am curvy and both of those would look awful on me due to those reasons. Yes, totally agree that it seems Evans is just upsizing outfits suitable only for the size zero in the name of 'offering plus sizers fashionable clothes' and hang the reasoning that it's actually going to look chuffing awful. My mind is inevitably drawn back to the sight of women wearing crop top tees with hipster jeans when that combination really, really don't flatter anything bar the flattest of midriffs. You wouldn't have caught me wearing those ?

Ahh I have a problem with their tights! I'm not exactly tall (5"8) and I'm a size 18/20 and they just don't fit!

Evans is a bit hit and miss. I have a lot of things from there, I shall be wearing one of their tops tonight when I go out and I'm wearing another one now, but they do have some really bad things in there too. You have to look closely! There was one item in there I saw recently that I just thought, dear god that's awful for anyone other than a size 8! It was a black all in one jump suit, awful awful!

Those 2 pieces that the OP had in are even worse in real life, having seen them in the shop this week.

I go in frequently to find the gems amongst the tat as it does fit me really well when they get it right and a lot of the nice comments I get about my clothes are Evans stuff such as the purple dress I wore this week to Parents evening.

OMG - that second one! It's like a black dress for plus sized people, with a blue size 10 painted on top! Is it supposed to make you look thin in the dark?! I can't imagine it would be flattering at all!

You see, I often wonder why they think all fattys are short! ? Their sizing and fitting are generally awful. The line 'created for curves' is such a joke-I'd challenge you to find anything in that shop with a bit of shape cut into it. And I so agre with whoever mentioned the tights-they are even worse this year. Last year, they had acres of fabric on top so you could pull them up over your boobs-this year, the biggest size, which is supposed to fit a 5'10" size 30, is an only juster on me at 5'7" and size 24.
    But what to do?
I find Simply Be not much better, Adsa have gorgeous stuff which theoretically goes up to sz 24, but is never seen in any shop I go in, Tesco range is pitiful, and anywhere fashionable (New Look etc) scares me!

The dress would be OK on a lady with relatively small breasts (who was a Star Trek fan and lived in an 80's time warp) but the top is hideous. No two ways about it - even a size 8 model would look awful in it! Yuck.

You have no idea how relieved I am that someone has the same problem. I actually cried a little bit when my pair didn't fit on Christmas morning, because it messed up my entire outfit ? I thought I must have abnormally massive legs. Have you found any that do fit anywhere?

I did the same at Christmas too! I'd even bought the size 2 tights after the size 1 wouldn't fit last time but again with no avail.

I have recently found some that fit really well and are in lots of fabby colours! John Lewis own brand tights! I have them in blue, purple, teal and black! Fabby! Just a shame they don't do patterened ones!

It's not just Evans that tries to inflict hideous fat-girl clothes on us, check these out: Bad stripes and the romper.

For patterned tights, try Asda. They only do black but I got some lovely herringbone patterned ones there.

That 'romper' is hilarious - I'd curl up and die before going out in that!
