Polaroid cameras ....... opinions and advice appreciated

diamondsragirlsbestfriend!, 23 June, 2008 at 07:34 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi - was thinking about getting a polaroid camera to have next to a guest book at the wedding. The idea being that people can take a piccie, stick it in the book and write a message. Thought it would be a nice idea as its instant (and half the time I find the pics on instant cameras don't really come out that well) and hoping people might take some light hearted pics.

Have been looking on website here in New Zealand (equivalent of ebay in UK) and there seem to be some pretty cheap ish polaroid cameras out there but the film seems very very expensive, for just 10 shots on a film (we are having 70-75 people at wedding reception so think I would need quite a bit of film).

What do people think of this idea? Does anyone have any experience of doing this? Any tips on type of polaroid camera to buy, what to look out for, and where to get reasonable film (in UK) or any other thoughts on it ........

TIA

We see these used now and again. One hint I can give you is that if you do use them please make an announcement that they should be used to photograph guests and not the bride and groom. Your wedding photographer should be taking lots of pictures of you and you really don't want another few hundred low quality snaps of the same thing. Better to have them used to cover the more informal people shots that would otherwise be missed.

I got a polaroid camera from Jessops for our day and our on the day co-ordinator went round and took photo's of people and stuck them in our guest book. People then wrote a message by their photo. She did it in the evening and I love our guest book. We still get it out to look through.

I'm a bridesmaid for my friend in a few weeks and she has asked me if I will be in charge of the camera and guest book. I'm going to do the same thing and snap people in the evening and get them to write a message. Mine cost about £30 and came with about 50 film things! We had 90 to our evening reception and had plenty of film as some people had a family group or couple shot. We even had the band and hotel coordinator in our book!

Did you even read the post which is clearly related to a guest book usage.

And please remove your website link which was not requested and contravenes Hitched rules.

Our friends did this but the problem was it took a long time and they only had an evening reception so I don't think it made it all the way round. Plus some people (including me!) didn't know how to use a Polaroid camera and had to take 2 photos.

If you do go with it, nominate an usher or BM to take the photos, file them and stick them in after and send the book round separately to save time.

I've been looking at getting one of these for exactly the same reason! But as you've discovered, the film is what seems to be really expensive so we're having to re-think. People are bound to take a couple of pics coz they dont like the original, and i wouldn't want them to run out so it just costs far too much. But if anyone knows of where to get cheap films, please let us know!!

Thanks for opinions/advice everyone. Will have to give it a bit more thought. May be worth checking out Jessops then to see what they have available and pricing. Will keep you posted, any further tips appreciated.
