***Poll about choreographed first dances***

Fran @ Hitched, 12 December, 2013 at 14:36 Posted on Planning 0 11

We’ve all seen choreographed first dances on YouTube, but this new style of wedding entertainment isn’t for everyone. We wanted to find out whether or not you’re a fan of the choreographed first dance at weddings.

And, if you're doing one....let us know which song you've chosen!

Thanks in advance,

Fran

I think they're great when they're tongue in cheek. Choreographed dances (a la Strictly) can be a bit cringey if the couple are stiff and so focused on their steps they're not enjoying the moment

Sorry. Can't stand them. I remember watching a Four Weddings episode and the couple did a choreographed dance and took it really seriously, making it so dull and cringey!

Nothing wrong with having a few lessons so you can do a bit more than shuffle round in circles but a full on show routine is a bit much!

I think both are horrible lol

nothing worse that having to look entertained while somebody shuffles

    and

nothing worse than seeing some butcher a dance routine

if someone can nail it then the routine would be great but im yet to see that happen, when will people learn one lesson is not enough to master something lol

I would LOVE to have a choreographed dance to L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole but my OH hates the idea. He hates dancing so it would be mean of me to expect him to do it.

Obviously this is my area but I think from chatting to other brides and from conversations on here that people see this subject in absolute extremes - i.e. either you do a full on 'you tube sensation' OTT routine or you just shuffle but that doesn't have to be the case.

In my experience, there are many shades in between where people can have a few moves to make it a bit more interesting but most importantly look and feel comfortable whatever they are doing. There are different strokes for different folks - it doesn't have to be extreme one way or another.

I appreciate why people may want to do it, but personally I'm not a fan.

We're even considering not doing a first dance. My OH doesn't really dance unless very very drunk, and he doesn't really like being the centre of attention, so he isn't too keen on the idea. I am happy not to do a first dance if he isn't comfortable with it, at the end of the day I want him to have fun and not to be stressing or worrying.

Some advice if you do decide to do a choreographed first dance. Let your videographer and photographer know what you are going to do. I was at a wedding recently where myself and the videographer had no idea a choreographed dance was going to happen and whilst it was fine for me in the end the videographer was not setup correctly to capture it.

It's all good keeping this a secret from your guests but defo let the photographer and videographer know about it! :-)

My OH doesn't dance but I used to go to dance classes and dances and big dance weekenders- latin and ballroom. I wasn't great but not terrible and I really enjoyed it. I stopped going when I was really ill a few years ago and haven't gone back yet. I'm still in touch with some of my dance friends and have agreed with my OH that I will do my first dance with one of my dance friends who is a fab dancer! I know this will really freak some of our guests out but it works for us so that's what we are doing.

We won't choreograph it though - he will lead, I will follow.
