Poll: How did you

Ask your bridesmaids to be your bridesmaid?

As we've got a while to go, I wanted to ask each of them on their birthday. But I wanted to do it in a different wa than just coming out of it...any ideas?

    Wow that's planned!

I just sent a picture message of my ring to them all a few hours after H proposed with the words 'Hi Bridesmaids...!'

The stories of when they opened the messages are really funny. One of them was on a train and yelped and started crying. When she told her boyfriend what it was the people in the carriage clapped.

I just said "will you be my bridesmaid?", now feeling a bit guilty that I didn't put some more thought into it! I've not actually worked out exactly who to have yet, two of my friends are definites so I've asked them, but am a bit undecided about the other (two) as we're all close friends and spend 8 years together at boarding school so don't want them to be offended, but I think 2 is a good number to have for me... I'll probably just ask them outright if I do decide to have them too though ?

Loving your idea though. But won't they get to hear about it from the others and then be sort of 'waiting'?

They're all from different circles of friends thankfully!

I've already asked my MOH - I did a little poem and photo's with us over the years in them

I've seen some bridesmaids hangers too I might get them just hope they keep them for the big day! lol

I've had a friend just assume she is bridesmaid before I had made up my mind abou it!

I wanted to tell her early on that because h2b's dad, sister and her are all amature photographers we were going to get a pro in so there wasn't any favouritism between them. She then followed this with

"that's ok, I wouldn't want to be your photographer anyway, 1 your too ocd for me and 2 I Wouldn't want tto be distracted from my bridesmaid duties"

    ha ha ha ha!!!

Two of them knew they would automatically be my bridesmaids before I even got engaged but the other one didn't. I sent them all a card in the post anyway, asking if they would do me the honour....

I called my CBM and got her voice mail, i told her i had a favor to ask, could she call me back. i got im patient so text the same.

not long after she called me, she was at awork event and went in the loos, she though i was in trouble and needed her help!

I said "Ive got myself in a situation where I need a chief b.maid. Will you do the job?"

she was very confussed for a bit then very excited then burst into tears!

Decided to just come out with it with the other 2!

I was that stunned I didn't know what to say. Now I've had to accept the decision has been made for me! Even my sister and another close friend waited to be asked first!

I am not having a MOH just bridesmaids. x

Awww that's such a lovely idea!!!

My sis just assumed (correctly!) that she would be one, then I planned to ask another friend face to face but as she lives overseas I had to ask her via skype lol.

I just had a thought though - not to put a damper on things (please don't think I'm being a b!tch!) but would doing that mean some were asked before others?

The reason I ask is that a friend of mine asked her sis and best friend instantly (face to face as they were at her house when she announced the engagement), but didn't get round to asking her future SIL as she wanted to ask her face to face, but the jungle drums means SIL heard about the other bridesmaids first and totally took the hump for ages, even refusing to be BM at first because she felt like she was an afterthought...

For my friend, I made a little album of photos of all the things we have done together over the years with the last page being a picture of the church we are getting married in and a message saying that I wanted her to be part of my wedding too (such a sap!!) My sister knew she would be a bridesmaid so I didn't need to ask but I will do the same sort of album for her once I have been able to get home and borrow some of the pictures of us together as children!

THnaks for all your replies - you lot are lovely!

I've decided to take her out to a restaurant and then have the waiter bring over a present for her - which will be a bridesmaids hanger and a card asking her to be my bridesmaid! Smiley smile
