***Poll relating to reception table names and numbers***

Fran @ Hitched, 24 January, 2013 at 19:01 Posted on Planning 0 27

Every wedding is unique, but when it comes to naming the reception tables, we want to know if you’re being super creative and choosing table names that have a special or personal meaning, or will you be choosing standard table numbers for your reception?

As always, your comments and opinions on this subject are welcome...

Fran

We were having potted herbs as our table decorations so we were naming the tables after the herb in the pot on that table...... but I have changed my mind about the potted herbs. So now am undecided! As purple is our theme I wondered about naming the tables after different shades of purple, not sure if there are enough so it's still work in progress!

We're having bowls of sweets on each table so just gonna name the table after the type of sweet. Nice and simple Smiley smile

On another note, who is bothering with name cards? My caterer has said not to bother as people tend to move around anyways so I think I'll save myself a hassle and tell them they are at this table but can sit anywhere xx

We've been living in NZ for the last 3 years so when we come back to get married we want to bring a little bit of NZ with us so are having table names using Maori love words.

It'll also be fun trying to hear people pronounce the words!! ?

Having names on locks on the Thames as OH is from a rather 'boaty' family.

If we didn't have those, we'd have just had numbers,

We had 17 tables so numbers would have given a perceived hierarchy that wasn't necessarily accurate.

We decided to name the tables to stop this from happening. We went with street names of places where we've spent time together over the 10 years we'd been together.

We are having the names of the beaches we go to frequently in the local area. The top table will be the name of the beach where OH proposed. We are collecting pebbles from each of the beaches and painting our guests names on them as place setting, and we are getting sticks of rock from each beach as our favours. All sounded good when we thought it up but has ended up being a lot of work!!!

We are going for something completely different! Im making my table plan using a large white frame ( with lots of 6x4 frames built in, if that makes sense) and having special dates that mean something to us, 2 of them being the dates our children were born, 1 the date we get married, 1 being the date we got engaged e.t.c I agonised over this for ages as I just didnt want to do the typical (1.2.3) but found it really hard trying to find something different that didnt sound odd and then I saw something similar to this and decided to run with it! The table plan will be put into the frame and any spaces will be of special pics of us and our kids. Im also glamming the frame up with a few gems and butterflies to make it look slightly more expensive than the £10 it was!!

    I like that idea.

    You could

have the monopoly cards but a lot bigger for the table names.

We are torn between iconic places in London, as this is where we got married, or classic romantic movies as we would like a movie theme at the wedding. This will be continued with favours as small boxes of popcorn etc.

We're having our table numbers as years from ****. We got together in 2005 and are getting married in 2013 and luckily having 9 tables! (Including the top one). We are using the double sided frames from ikea. Going to have the year (table number) one side and a picture of us that year and a write up of something significant that happened to us, or we did that year on the other!

it will either give people a talking point or something to laugh at!

I wanted to do this... and still might.

Before we moved in together we used to play monopoly at each other's parents houses and then ended up collecting special edition monopoly games so it's a special game for us. Plus we both work in central London so have been to most places in the traditional game.

We're having table numbers but on different wine bottles, so every table will be a different wine. Best of both worlds.

We are having pictures of us at different ages and the table numbers relate to those ages.

top table is 1 with baby pics we have some at first school, all the way up thru uni so tables could be numbered up to 29 at the date of our wedding!

It's a while off yet but we're going to do names of cities around the World that we've traveled to and have a few pictures of us in each destination on the table (all OH's idea to give him credit). I agree that numbers could make people feel like they're at the bottom of the guest list if they're at the highest number.

Ooh I like this idea, we have 7 tables and been together 7 years. May have to steal this one if you don't mind? We have been so undecided on table number as didn't want there to be a type of higher arche but with this there wouldn't be. :-)

We're naming them after concerts we've been to. Planning to use double sided frames and put a little biography of the group and details of the concert on the back. We're known for our 'go to every gig we can' attitude!
