Pondering about pets

greenbean, 12 May, 2012 at 18:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Following on from the amazing pet flash thread I've been thinking about my little Darwin. Sometimes I just stare at him in the house and am amazed that I am able to keep such a dependent living thing happy and healthy. My shock at this revalation probably doesnt bode too well for motherhood lol! And sometimes I look at him and think objectively how odd it is to have a small animal that you invite to live in your house. From the outside looking in, if it was not a socially accepted norm to do so, it would be a crazy thing to do. No point to this thread, just my meandering thoughts!

I think this too sometimes! I also don't know where a child could fit in cos Roderigo is so clingy to me and gets so jealous of visitors I don't know how he would cope with a baby! I'm glad I'm not the ony one who has these strange thoughts!

I know what you mean Greenbean! Ponder away. I sometimes look at the moggersons and wonder how much they understand of what I tell them and if they have feelings etc? Do they love me like I love them or am I just someone who gives them a bit of fuss and a lot of food?

There are also times when they "talk" and reply to questions. Part of me likes to think they understand what I'm saying and are coomunicatinf, the other part knows that I'm a fruit loop and that this isn't the case

Haha *Mini*, I like to think he loves me, but every now and then he gives me a sideways glance that says "I hate you!" I'm sure it is just him looking at me from the side tho lol.

And BlueBow, both my partner and I have full blown conversations we our dog daily. When we are together, I will ususally talk to darwin, and he will talk back as if he is the dog. If i'm on my own I do both voices lol

They deffo love you back, Mini! Mine do.. If I died, I like to think they'd be distraught. Until a carnivore offered them some meat, they'd soon forget Mommy.

But seriously, my blue one definitely loves me a little too much, he doesn't even know he's a cat.

I'm not so much amazed that I'm able to care for animals, as I've managed to care for myself for this long, more that an animal can give you such unconditional love. I was amazed though when I successfully bred, incubated and hatched a batch of baby bearded dragons!

Harry being half Bengal is very vocal and talks all the time. Little One mews and chirrups and if you say hello to her she will squeak back. Her purr is so loud she is able to wake me up doing it. Naughty One however never meows and her purr is very quiet. little personalities the lot of them.

I'm surprised my kids are still alive, as in the past i've been rubbish at keeping pets alive, never mind another human.

I once killed my fish by giving it paracetamol. One swam Into the glass, and i thought it'd get a headache. I woke up to a tank full of floaters. I was 7 at the time...

Oh this did make me laugh. We do it too with our dog ? Occassionally when we're out and about or have visitors over, we can forget we've got company and still have a conversation with him like this. Noone ever says anything though ? lol
