Popcorn table.... advice and suggestions appreciated

katieJ2b, 18 September, 2016 at 08:57 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi guys, in my early days of planning I decided that I wanted a popcorn buffet, as a twist on the usual sweet table. I found loads of images on Pinterest and imagined lots of different flavours set up and everyone loving it. Reality is that popcorn in large quantities is quite hard to source. (I want bags of pre popped popcorn, I don't want the small of having it popped on site)So I have found someone that can do me really large bags (probably too large) but because of the price of them we could only afford to have three flavours, salt, sweet and toffee. Now my venue are happy to set it up and cover with plastic, but they won't refill the buckets during the evening so I would have to rely on other people to help do that, although I would rather that they didn't have to and can just enjoy themselves in the evening. Also, if the venue set it up in the morning by the time the evening cake around it will have gone soft, so I'd need someone (bridesmaid or mum) to fill them up to start with as well.

The more I think about it the more I don't think it's such a good idea anymore....seems to be a lot of hassle for something that won't be as fabulous as I first imagined with lots of different flavours. I'm also worried it will look a little naff with just three buckets of popcorn.

Does anyone have any brain box ideas? Or shall I think about switching for a standard sweetie table?? As I do want something else in the evening for people (and I love both popcorn and sweets Smiley smile )

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.....again, I'm driving myself mad with things that are really not important at all!!

    Hi,

We're having popcorn on our sweet table and just putting it in a jar with a lid. To be honest I hadn't thought about it going soft but surely if you got those jars that have the metal closures it would keep ok? I know you'd have to get fairly big ones but you can get them in places like Wilkos or if you have a range near you.

You could also have like 'added extras' where people can add a few toppings themselves. Like maple syrup, or Coco powder etc. I know this may get messy but it could be fun!

Is it too much hassle/expense to get bags of different flavours over a period of time then open and tip them all I to lots of big sweet jars. I know supermarkets sell loads of different flavours.

We only have 4 weeks left! Nothing like a last minute change! And it still doesn't solve the issue with the popcorn going soft. I had been searching for large enough containers for the popcorn and ended up ordering champagne ice buckets to tie in with the rest of the champagne theme! I've not been able to find big enoug jars with lids.....

i think ive talked myself into a sweet table. I can get about 11 types of sweets for the same price as three popcorn flavours hmmmmm xx

What about on your now sweetie table, you have a section with some smaller jars with popcorn in, of different flavours and some toppers for people to add themselves?

Do you qualify for a Costco card? Or know anyone who does? (Or you can buy online without one but there's less stuff I think), as they do massive bags of stuff really cheap - good for sweeties or popcorn.

For me I think of popcorn as a sweet thing anyway, so having some with the sweets would seem like a great idea to me!

And if they need refilling could a bridesmaid/groomsman be given the task to refill them?

Asda do large tubs of popcorn for £2 each - get a load of those then stack the extras under the table so no need for refill; just replace?

We had a chocolate buffet and it went down a storm.

Could you hire someone to set it up and re-fill for you?

Thank you all for your suggestions! Decided to go with the sweets instead of popcorn. The venue are going to set it up for me in the morning then we just need to keep an eye on it during the evening. Sweets will last longer than the popcorn anyway, and I'm hoping I can sweet talk the catering team on the day to keep an eye on it for us. Who can say no to a bride on her wedding day aye?!?! Ha ha ha x
