Positive post - calling all Hitchers!

LilMissBusyBride, 2 April, 2013 at 11:46 Posted on Planning 0 22

Okay, I have not read some of the infamous posts mentioned here today, but feel we need some positive vibes on here! Questions that you may wish to answer to add to the positivity!

- What has been the best bit of wedding planning?

- What has been the best bit of advice (or idea) you have received from Hitched?

I'll start -

Best bit of planning was choosing my cake and flavours (fruit, vanilla sponge, red velvet, and choc orange) and booking the date.

Best advice - do it your way and keep it personal.

Best idea/tip - (so many!) blinging up my boring shoes with daiamantes!

To be perfectly honest, I've received no advice from hitched as I haven't asked for anything but the best part of the wedding planning so far are two things the surprised classic cars (mustang and dodge charger) from the film Bullit. I've tricked the H2B into thinking he can't have these two cars and will be having a normal wedding car. It is he dream to have these cars he loves his mustangs and American old cars... Can't wait to see his face, and finding the dress was such an amazing experience these are both my best parts of the wedding planning :-) I'm sorry I'm the first to post I think everyone's still in the other post haha x

Cake is currently mountain to climb!

finding a TOG with the help of hitchers was great. I had a dilemma was she was outta my price/league but they convinced to just go for it. Harking back to my post number one, my chinese wedding dress and my panic! hitchers kept me sane!!

I'm still early days so apart from venue and registrar nothing much is done so Hitched is great for collecting (stealing) ideas and I particularly like the Togs' advice on here.

My favourite planning thing so far? Hmm, probably bringing home a lump of wood weighing about a 20kg for OH to 'make into a cake stand' and as I got home, realising it was a terrible idea but he just saw it, knew exactly what I had envisioned, took it in his stride and took it away to deal with! We now joke about his 'Dod of wood' in the garage as it is blockinig in the kid's bikes but is too unweildy to put anywhere else until it has dried out a bit!

Did you get the wood idea from hitched? I was signed up to hitched for a while just couldn't think if the password, after creating a FB page girls mentioned this site... So resigned up, finding it a little hard to keep track of comments lol. But still early days and could possibly get help from hitched soon. I think it was hitched that found brides to be with the same colour scheme as me but have now changed it as even after a year and half of searching I still can't find it lol.

When are you ladies saying I do?

Best bit of planning so far has been going to the NEC wedding show, gave us a lot of ideas even if it was pricey.

Best advice from hitched so far is help with choosing string quartet as lots of ladies had had them previously so could recommend them personally ?

    Are OMs allowed to post?

My best part of planning was being able to ask anything and get an honest answer without having to give away my wedding secrets to folk IRL.

And flashing my beautiful dress of course Smiley winking

Best tip given by OMs was to not stress over the small details as nobody else would know and to enjoy every second as it would fly by (and it did).

thats good to know, guess if I concentrated on stressing on the big stuff then the little stuff will be easy.

Thanks for the tip Smiley smile

The best bit about wedding planning for me was dress shopping. As for advice on here, I had lots-from help from our amazing HIBS with jewellery ideas and flower girl wands to what course of action to take when the dress shop I was using closed without warning and advise on family issues. Help from other brides, HIBS and OM's was invaluable when I was planning.

I'm pretty new to the planning but I'm really looking forward to making our centrepieces even though I have no idea what we are going to have, ha! I may retract that statement afterwards!

    **OM ALERT**

The best part of planning my wedding was definitely choosing my dress but choosing our wedding rings was a really nice moment for H and I.

Best bit of advice given on here would have to be the same as PB, basically don't stress the small stuff, and have no regrets oh and don't be scared to state a no child rule! ( I had nightmares over offending people with this one)

Best idea/tip - Try the high street for your bridesmaid dresses! I got a steal from Karen Millen! and I have to thank our HIB Lisa from LouLouBelle for the beautiful bridesmaids necklaces and earings.

Yes! That's so nice you remember.

Elixia I am not a fluffy sort and don't usually like hearts on stuff but I do love that cake, it is actually brilliant.

    Another horrid OM here ?

The best bit of WP for me was seeing my husband actually get really into it. Sounds weird, but he was always of the opinion that getting married was my thing and he was doing it to make me happy. Once we actually got stuck into it, he was really excited and couldn't keep away!

Best input I had from Hitched was the courage to just go on and plan the things we wanted instead of fretting about sticking to 'wedding norms'. I received a lot of encouragement for our slightly odd table centrepieces and couldn't have done without it!

This is a really lovely idea and I am already back to positive mode after reading everyone's posts here.

    1. Best bit of planning was finding the venue. It was a bit of a trail finding somewhere near and big enough and it is SO perfect!

    2. The best bit of advice was for me to slow down with planning/buying things now. I have got quite ahead of myself and it is still 15 months to go!!

    3. The best tip I had was when I posted a flash on my Save the Dates and someone very helpfully pointed out a spelling mistake!! hehe

We're obviously all trying to do the same as I've just started a thread about happy thoughts!

    - What has been the best bit of wedding planning?

Seeing how happy our families are and how they genuinely want to get involve and help us. Also sorting out little details that'll make the day more special to us.

    - What has been the best bit of advice (or idea) you have received from Hitched?

Advice about photographers, which I had no idea about before - thanks MarianneChuaPhotography!

One of the best bits is knowing I am getting married in the same spot my Nana & Grandad and Mum & Dad did many years ago.

I have stolen so many ideas from hitched and can't think of one specific Wedding related bit of advice- too many to choose from.

    Elixia- I love that cake!

Best part so far, can't choose one but have three! Booking the venue (didn't think we could afford it originally so it was really nice when we booked it, it was love at first sight!), booking the TOG (we had problems with a previous TOG who we were supposed to be booking, it was a relief when we booked an excellent TOG who we trusted) and attending the UK wedding show at the Excel ( was really nice to have all the wedding stalls in one place and we got ridiculously excited and acted like children in a sweet shop!).

Best bit of advice, not to give up on something I liked if it seemed out of reach, there are other ways and means and a hair stylist recommendation who I ended up booking.

My best part of planning was the same as the best bit of advice from hitched! I ended up hating my dress, but after a break from seeing it, and then flashing it here, the lovely hitchers gave me their honest opinions that yes it was plain, but it suited my figure. I fell in love with my dress again and they saved me having to find another huge chunk of money for another dress.

Loving the more positive post - yay!!

Best Bit - Definitely dress shopping, I loved geting to try on so many beautiful gowns and felt like a Princess when I finally found "The One".

Best Bit of Advice from Hitchers - Hitchers helped me find my Lighting Company who have been fantastic! Best price and service I've found by a mile and the lights they are supplying me are going to totally transform our wedding and make our whole theme pretty much, so yea, pretty big deal for us! :-)

    xxx
