post boxes

kate.s, 21 April, 2012 at 22:14 Posted on Planning 0 14

I'm having a bit of trouble with my post box. I was certain i wanted a birdcage but after reassessing the whole 'theme' of the wedding im now thinking its going to look completely out of place, i'm a bit gutted but hey ho. My mum keeps saying just get the cardboard pop up post box, which i have a feeling im going to end up with but id rather have something else if i can.

Soooo help! Please ideas anyone?

Some people have a vintage suitcase which looks quite nice. What's your theme ??

I don't really know if its a theme, i was originally going for vintage hence the birdcage but its more of a candle light romantic thing, mirror/reflective candle light and a few flowers.

I like both those ideas! how much does it cost to hire the post box?

Rach, what company are you hiring the post box from? I prefer the rectangular ones instead of the round ones but I'm struggling to find one (short of pinching one from a road side!! *joke*)

    Hiya,

WE're hiring it from my OH friends wife who has just set up a business hiring out wedding bits. It's costing us £30 but think that may be mates rates. I have seen them for about £60 hire cost with £100 deposit incase it gets trashed lol.

I've just looked them up, and they charge £60 just to HIRE? and £300 to buy?! I'm sorry, but I couldn't justify that, when I could just use one of my magazine baskets from the lounge with a DIY cards sign on it. It looks nice, but so not worth the price tag, imo.

I see your point on the cost for some people, but for us in the bigger picture of what we're spending £60 makes no difference. Not to sound snobby or like we are massively rich (we aren't), but when you're spending close on 3k for food and drinks for everyone then £60 is a drop in the ocean! It is a feature we both wanted - we originally met at our local post office, so we really wanted the classic red post box as a part of our day.

If we hadn't had an attachment to the post box, I would be using the venue's lockable heavy duty storage box they provide, or DIY-ing one of those vintage style suitcases.
