Potential Flower Solution - opinions please :)

Limoncellobride, 31 May, 2015 at 11:23 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hey everybody,

I think I've mentioned before, but we're getting married on 27th June 2016 in Rome, then having a fairly laid back, Italian themed reception in the UK, with a big italian buffet, 'gelato' (ice cream) stand, prosecco etc...

Got the flowers sorted for Italy, however for the UK do I was going to order them from a wholesaler and do some very informal arrangements of various sizes for the UK and dot them around the venue (we're not having formal seating, and it's spread across 3/4 rooms and gardens) - however the issue with ordering from a wholesaler is that they have to be delivered and looked after 4 days before the event they need to blossom by, and everybody that could do this for us would be in Italy with us! So last night I was trying to come up with a solution and thought - why not just order normal flower bouquets and put them in nice vases? We have a flower budget of £300 for the UK so I found these:

http://www.nextflowers.co.uk/FlowersItem/6463/6463 (Larger arrangement £32 per arrangement, including vase)

http://www.nextflowers.co.uk/FlowersItem/6461/6461 (Smaller arrangement £26 per arrangement, including vase)

So I was thinking 6 large arrangements and 4 smaller arrangements in the bar area- what do you think? Would this look okay?

They look lovely. I would also contact local florists (not mentioning the word 'wedding') and asking how much they'd charge for something similar. Tesco and asda also do flowers online, but no idea of quality. The cheapest option is to risk it and see whats available in a supermarket on the day.

Thanks guys! It's funny you should mention the supermarket flowers- I did consider this, however a friend of mine got married on Friday was planning on getting specific flowers from a certain supermarket on the morning of the wedding, and on the day they didn't have them (for the first time ever!) and somebody had to go and find an alternative.

I guess because of that I'm leaning towards ordering arrangements rather than on the day. I have approached a couple of florists however the costs were way over the price of these arrangements (£80+) but I did make the mistake of telling them it's a wedding! Maybe I could go back on that one and just describe it as a 'celebration' or 'event' and see if the prices change somewhat! Thanks for your help ladies Smiley smile

Thanks Mrs Edis, that's reassuring to hear! I'll never forget last Valentine's Day when a work mate received a bunch of Interflora flowers - they were so bad she laughed! We looked at the bouquet online and it wasn't even recognizable, so Interflora are a no-go for this! I was thinking of ordering one of these for the house just as a test of quality Smiley smile

    How about a market stall?

The Next flowers are gorgeous. Do you think you'll have enough though?

Also, Interflora is a network of florists - so it is probably the florist who did your colleague's bouquet that is substandard and not all Interflora florists. I have been fortunate to never have an issue with Interflora (as a giver or receiver) in several countries.

You could place a special order with a supermarket and they could order and save the flowers on one side for you

Ah that makes sense Ash953, I did wonder how they could be so successful when the flowers were so pants! Market stall is also a very good idea, I'll have a wander round the florists at our local when I'm down there next Smiley smile I am a little concerned about having enough, but the venue is The Manners Arms in Knipton, (see below) so fairly laid back so I thought if I put the large ones in the restaurant area and conservatory where the disco will be and buffet, and then dot the smaller ones on the table in the bar area, it would just give off a slightly 'weddingy' look? We're doing the whole thing with knobs on in Italy so we want this to be more of a celebration or party than a wedding, if that makes sense?

Also just explained this idea to my mum, and she's offered to bring roses and hydrangea from her garden to put in complementary vases/ tealight holders to put on the table outside Smiley smile which should hopefully supplement it a little! What flowers and how many of each arrangement is everyone else having?

We're buying ours from a wholesalers, it's actually a farm that grow their own. We went out there last week and they recommended what they have in stock the week of the wedding. They said to call them the Monday before the wedding to arrange pick up on thurs or Friday morning - wedding is on sat - and they'll box everything we need to make 10 x table centres, bouquet and buttonholes -all for less than £100!

I think the photo looks great and this is such a great idea. I think any decent bouquet of flowers in a vase as a centrepiece will brighten up a room. I rarely have fresh flowers in my home even though I like flowers so its always nice to be in a venue with fresh flowers on display. I actually prefer them to some OTT formal wedding flower arrangements. To keep costs down, we are going for a statement flower. Currently thinking of lillies.
