Potentially fantastic news!

Some of you may remember my H had an accident in my car when an uninsured driver hit him and our car was written of and I lost my NCB (which I'd spent quite a wee while building and was very necessary because of my age) and we've both had to declare the claim. The numpty who crashed into us wasn't good for paying back the money so it never got settled etc etc. Our first year of insurance after it saw our premiums double (they were quite dear before anyway) and we are due for renewal very soon and I've been shopping around as we are changing cars again. Spoke with our broker again who was showing cheapest of all the online searches for mine so decided to ring the company we always seem tog et insured through through the broker (they ahve a poilcy whereby your NCB isn't impacted on my uninsured claims but because we were through a broker, it didn't count for us).

Anyway after a mammoth conversation with a lovely girl there, she spoke to underwriters and stuff they are reinstating my full NCB and offering H some discount on his own policy if he used them as he has been a named driver with mine (subject to written confirmation from my broker of my ncb history)!

All in all my premiums will be about £1000 cheaper than they were last year!!! And H's look to be about £200 chepaer than he was getting quoted elsewhere.

I am completely over the moon, I think I love her a bit.

Now do you think I should/can complain to my broker about me shelling out a massive amount of money over the last year? Probably not but I'm a bit annoyed that I've spent a small fortune on the insurance when if I'd went directly to this company I may not have had to (When I spoke to them when they were sorting my claim they said there was nothing I could do about losing my NCB but Iguess they didn't work in "quotes".

Wooohooo I will N&P when the policy has been incepted ?

So let me get this straight, the girl you spoke to was from the insurers that you're using but direct, rather than the broker. It was the broker that didn't basically do his homework? I'd mention it to the broker and see what they say, they're working for your best interest aren't they?

Glad you've managed to bring the police right down though, I hate car insurance renewal time, it's a PITA

Yep, we've always used the same broker, when I've found cheaper stuff online, they've always matched it for us so had no reason to look elsewhere. At renewal last year with having no ncb, a recent claim, insurers to quote me were scarce and pretty much had no choice but to go with the broker who again insured us through company (call them a) who I think the broker have always ended up insuring us with. I should really have contacted them direct I suppose but the claims handler types at insurer a told me that I would have to lose my ncb if they couldn't recoup from the other driver when they were dealing with the accident, so when they couldn't I didn't think there was anyway we could get round it iyswim...

Anyway this nice girl in quotes at the insurer direct has got the underwriters to agree to reinstate it it would seem, so yay for that but I'm still a bit annoyed at the expense I've went through this past year ? Theyw on't allow me to protect it this year but should do next year (and then hopefully at renewal next year I can shop around and have a nice big ncb to take with me)

That's great news!! Insurance can feel like a right swizz sometimes. My car insurance broker this year tried to tell me they couldn't get anything better than £150 more than I paid last year despite having no claims. Funnily enough I've found someone that is £150 cheaper than I paid last year.

I'm not sure if it's worth the agro of complaining to the broker, I doubt there's anything they can do. Might make you feel better though.

I know, I don't think they'd do anything but I am really annoyed though still pleased that this year's look so good. Fingers crossed the price is held until the shiny new car arrives and I start the policy ?

Can't you buy it now to start the day the car arrives? I agreed and paid for my new policy about a week before it was due to start.

Which sparkly new car have you got?

I haven't got a definite delivery date yet and it's new so no reg either (was due in a couple of weeks ago but now looks like it'll be the end of this month) but the girl said that quote was valid for 28 days so should be ok. It's a black vauxhall insignia and H is getting a golf (we weren't sure who was getting what but think we've decided on this way subject to him getting finance on the golf even though it would be cheaper to insure the other way he prefers the golf so will be mainly driving it). We'll be paying a good bit more for the cars but at least the insurance is much cheaper than we were budgeting for so it doesn't seem so bad. I think I might need some new sitting down/driving shoes to celebrate ?

Jaz I would go back to the broker and explain to them what has happend. Maybe it is something that they did not realise they could do regarding the NCB although they should really have checked as you have been a loyal customer to them. I might be wrong but must of those brokers work on a fee basis from the insurer, so the bigger the premiums the higher the fee will be. I personally would speak to them about it. I love getting a new car you must be soooo excited.

Oh my word, the Insignia is huge (just had to goole). I think my best friends OH is getting one of those as well. I think I'd have to go for the golf! ?

New driving shoes are DEFINITELY in order!
