Power sockets alternative Generator?

ABBY1234519, 9 December, 2013 at 13:16 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi Ladies

First time I have needed to ask a question on here! I've found my reception venue however there aren't many plugs....honestly. Like 2.

Well there are two on 1 wall, 1 possibly on the back wall and two in the kitchen that we can use.

How on earth can I run a jukebox/photobooth/lots of lights/ microphone/ etc etc etc?

So then I thought about a generator because howelse do you provide power in a marquee wedding. Does anyone have any experience of this? I have been googling generators but they seem to be all for festivals etc

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

You can hire generators from HSS hire shop.

Avoid petrol generators for the increased fire safety risks (some venues won't allow them)

depending on the wattage of the equipment could multiplug adapters be an option?

Well, I had considered adaptors but I want to run hanging lights, not fairy lights but similar, and then I had also thought about have the Wii set up in the corner as a bit of fun for the kids (and adults) and also then if we do have a band I am not sure how much they need. Then there is the photo booth and potentially some uplighters.

    I'd hate to blow fuses!

Have you tried asking the venue?

They might have had this inquire in the past and might be able to help too!!

Yes I did, its actually a sort of church/community hall that was refurbished but when they refurbished they didn't put enough sockets in. They've only had one wedding there so she couldn't really help. I will try HSS to start with and ask around

Are there any plug sockets hidden in the floor you may have missed? Most venues usually have some hidden away in the floor to supply vacuum cleaners etc unless they are getting an extension lead out every time they clean up.

How odd! I guess they must have some hidden away, is it a normal wedding venue?

My first point of call would be to speak to the venue, see what other brides have done and take it from there.

Points to you for noticing- would have never have occurred to me to check that sort of thing at a venue Smiley smile

You need to add up how much power you are likely to need to hire the correct size generator.

each socket at the venue will provide power to approx 3200 watts of electrical equipment. a small disco or band will need 3000 watts

You could use LED lights that are battery powered.
