I could be wrong - I'm prepared to be corrected.

There seems to be an influx of it's usage all of a sudden.

Sweetlikechocolate used it at the weekend on her missing cat post - which I don't think is a pointless post at all...

It's weird to me cos on a wedding forum, every post is somewhat pointless. Look I've got my dress! Look my invitations arrived! None of these things are groundbreaking or, y'know, of national interest. But they're important to the poster and probably quite interesting to many others reading, so they're not pointless when put in context.

I was wondering this! It's weird seeing something new being used so frequently when I've never seen it before despite 3 and a half years on Hitched!

I don't think any post really constitutes as pointless to be honest. All posts have a meaning otherwise they wouldn't be there! Even trolls. Their posts have a purpose which is to annoy, so even they aren't pointless!

I don't get the PP when used for a "pointless post". Never known it to be used in my years of Hitching.

With regards to Hitched, PP is another name for it - purple place.

Yep, me too. I think I'm in an irritable mood today cos I had a sudden urge to post in every offending thread "so why exactly did you consider this pointless?" But I'm not gonna, for obvious reasons.

In that case, whilst we're on the subject, what does *BT* mean? Smiley laugh x

This is really interesting, because as a relative newbie, I felt like I *had* to use it when I wanted to squee about something but wasn't really expecting to get an answer because it was just me being over-excited or whatever.

But then I tend only to start posts when I'm really worried, or in the most recent case, angry - I deleted one of my posts which wasn't labelled PP but was pointless on the basis that no-one really wants to hear my ramblings about me. (One exception being my overly long rant/warning about first fitting today) But I'm happy to post comments/ advice/ opinions on other people's topics if it might be helpful - that's more my real life style too.

I'm rambling again. This should be labelled pointless comment.

It's annoyed me no end but then most things do. I've been on hitched four years and have no idea where it's come from.

bt refers to 'baby talk' it indicates that the post contains baby related discussions so those who are having issues in that area can avoid the post if they want too.

I can kind of understand it if you are posting non wedding related posts in WP... but that's what OT is for?

BT was introduced when Hitched made the genius decision of relocating the baby forum to another website so that those in OT that were having a hard time could avoid anything baby related.

I've been on forums for 14 years and I'd never heard of PP until recently!

I kind of get the feeling it's people new to the forums thinking they have to label every post *BT* *WP* *PP* etc. But actually BT is the only one that actually has a purpose (so those who are having a hard time with TTC can avoid baby stuff). The other two irritate me a bit, I don't need to be "warned" that something is wedding related on a wedding forum, and as InkedDoll said, pretty much every post is pointless really! There's no need to apologise for it!

As a newcomer to forums, I found all the different abbreviations very confusing. Its like a different language!! I've got used to most of them now and I slso know where to look if I am unsure. I wonder if this one comes from a different forum and has just been picked up by others? I have seen it used in fb groups lately as well, although it is used there to indicate an OT post, or a post where no answer is required, no advice needed or the poster is having a rant.

It doesn't bug me as much as the sudden rash of titles in CAPS!!! I feel like I'm being yelled at to read the post, pleease read my post! I find myself deliberately ignoring them ?

    ? hee heeee.

I'm clearly in procrastination mode, doing ANYTHING to avoid EVERYTHING.

Now I'm off to watch the final episode of Fargo (recorded yesterday) before reading that Fargo thread....

A lot of the common abbreviations used in WP are listed in the welcome thread pinned to the top of the page.

I love how all the oldy married's around here are like "In all my years around here it's never been necessary to use *PP* so I don't know why all these youngens think it's necessary now. I tell ye, it's not like the old days, all this new fandangled language they're using. Pass me knitting, Beryl."

I don't seeh how any post is pointless to the OP.

Unless of course they say: 'This is a pointless post. That is all'.

We are old and bitter and don't like change.

There were complaints from newbies in WP when traditions like the annual awards nights and good luck threads didn't happen... so we added the welcome thread to explain what these traditions were and how they keep them going. Old marrieds have good advice to offer and we always appreciated the blunt honest nature of this forum. We are not so keen on fluff. That can stay on the pink pages.

I only know of PP to mean Purple Place which, like ER said, is another name for Hitched.

But then, people wouldn't use PP on the PP forums...
