Pre Loved dresses etc

vintageangel, 13 January, 2011 at 09:23 Posted on Planning 0 17

Morning,

Was just wondering and would be interested to see what peoples views were on a wedding dress from pre loved, ebay etc?

I hadn't thought about it until a few nights ago when i was looking online and had a look on pre loved, i couldnt believe how cheap some people were selling their gorgeous dresses for! See it doesnt bother me it being second hand especially if your on a budget and you find a great dress at a fraction of the original cost then its more to spend on other things. So has anyone got any bargains or wouldnt you go there?

I was just about to post a similar sort of question.

I have 2 fave dresses at the moment, one is affordable at £599 and one out of budget at £1055. I have seen the £1055 for sale for £400 - very good condition, trust the seller, dont mind having second hand.

My dilemma is am pressured to buy it because its on ebay without making a decision on a dress, but at £400 is too good to let go surely!?!

My question was how easy is it to sell a dress on? Has anyone done it? I wouldnt want to get stuck with a second dress, but have no one to ask about this xx

Hi, i've seen 2 lovely dresses that I really want to try on, but they are both discontinued so have been looking on pre-loved etc sites to try and find them! I have no problem if my dress was 2nd hand, my idea at the moment is to go the shops try on as many dresses as i can, then when i find The One - have a look around to see if anyone is selling one, so that it's a bit cheaper etc.

There is a thread on here that a lady bought her wedding dress this week as a pre-loved, the dress looks gorgeous, fits beautiful and was a bargin price!

Also look out for store sample sales.

I've bought mine as a store sample and saved £900.

It is as new and only been tried on a handful of times!

For alterations though, how do you find a good seamstress? Some of the bridal shops will do it, but charge a massive premium for alterations.

If it helps I am in the Bedfordshire area xx

I bought my wedding dress on ebay. It is a vintage dress from a US ebay shop who sells premium vintage clothes. I found them very trustworthy. I had to do it this way because I wanted vintage and didn't want to go to a vintage wedding dress shop here in London as the prices are the same as some designer new ones!

EVEN if I didn't want vintage I would still consider buying a second hand version of my dream dress as, let's face it, it has only been worn once and you can save £100s! Just factor in seamstress charges when making your bid.

I would say most of the sellers are honest, the pre-loved dresses on ebay all seem to be ladies who have recently got married and wish to sell their dress on. Check their feedback to make sure they are honest, or email them if you have questions.

    I love ebay!

Vintage Angel - Where are you based? Have asked friends and family, not something that seems to be used a lot. xx

I did exactly this. Found the one I wanted in a bridal shop and then my bridesmaid and I scoured the internet for a second hand one (found it on ebay in the end). I paid £350 for a dress that would have cost approx £1000 new. It was in perfect condition and you would never know it was second hand. I couldn't justify spending that much money on a dress i'll wear once as it would have been at the expense of another part of our day.

I have now had my dress professionally cleaned and have it on pre loved (and ebay) for about £100 less than I paid. It is still in perfect condition.

yep i see nothing wrong with buying 2nd hand - kinda of nice knowing its being enjoyed by someone else on their special day ? although ive now a slight problem as i think ive fallen for a a couple of dresses that are discontinued! and have scoured the pre-loved/ebay but no signs at the mo!

May also go down the route of having a dress made - to the design of one of the discountied ones?!

I would definately consider buying a pre-loved dress. I am the lady who got the Maggie Sottero dress for £375. If you know what you want and you find it on one of these sites its worth having a look with no obligation to buy. You have nothing to lose as long as you aren't having to travel to far to see it and try it on.

Well since this morning i've had a proper look on pre loved in my area and have found a dress i really like for £150!!! and the very lovely lady selling it has offered me to go have a look at it tonight! eeekkk! Now i dont have a clue what sort of dress suits me, haven't even tried any on yet but im thinking if i do fall in love with it and buy it, then change my mind i'm sure to get the money back on ebay, its too much of a bargain not to just go and have a look at it ?

I bought my dress pre-loved. Went to a dress shop to see what suited and sort-of decided on a very elegant gown. But then whilst just idly looking through Preloved.co.uk, I noticed someone selling a gorgeous princessy gown just a few streets away from me for £290, so went to have a look. It sadly didn't fit me, but I'd fallen in love with it and decided that as I'm only 22 I don't need to do "elegant" LOL. So found another seller selling the same dress in my size, it cost me £600 but still a lot less than the £1300 I'd have paid new. As for a seamstress, someone recommended one to my mum so that's good.

Here is the (unaltered) dress on me (couldn't resist a flash):
