pressure to lose weight???

annandy2007, 25 April, 2008 at 20:35 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi there,

Just wondering if this is a common problem and how do you feel with it?

I am been a size 14/16 all my life. In my twenties i was constantly on stupid diets but although i lose a couple of pounds when i eat normally again i go back to the same weight.

I resigned myself to the fact i will always be overweight and have been much happier since not worrying about it.

I always stay around the same weight (i think - i threw out the scales years ago) my clothes always fit well and my H2B thinks im sexy, lovely etc...

Since the engagement family are going on about me about dieting. His dietitian sister has got me down for a how to lose weight session. They never seem to shut up about it....

JUst want to tell them to leave me alone - i am perfectly happy with my curves thank you!!!

Or should i go along with it and diet. Thought my days of obsessing about food were over...

    WSS!

I am dieting for the wedding, but because I want to, not because anyone else does. I was already dieting before h2b proposed, I've just stepped it up a gear now!

Don't do anything you don't want to do.

Oooh, I'd love to be your size! I'm a 22/24 at the moment with the aim to be a gorgeous, sexy size 16 in time for my wedding next August!

As long as you feel happy/comfortable/sexy with your size then sod 'em all!!!!

You sound so much like me I could have typed this myself.
I was asked the same Q's by family and friends but I have told them that my OH loves me as I am and I am happy, so sod off!!! ?

Seriously tho I really love my curves, and so what if I am not a size 10/12? You're obviously happy too so stay as your are.

Its your OH that you are marrying not his pushy family

Don't want to be a stick insect!!!!! H2B would snap me!!!lol

My dad is actually the worse with the "its because i love you line and don't want you to get heart disease etc"

I spent years with my first hubby being miserable making myself ill on stupid diets.

Its nice to know i have nice back up support...?

Got a basic equation for you:

you happy + H2B happy = tell family to s*d off!!

If you diet when your heart isn't in it you'll just end up feeling down and making yourself ill, plus from what you have said you don't need to diet.

I didn't buy a dress I liked because the Berketexx lady assumed I'd be dieting. I'm a size 10 and always have been. A diet? A what?

I think its really rude and weird too - surely everyone's friends and family know what you look like?

I know they are so cheeky in bridal shops..

They automatically added the alteration package to the price of a dress i looked at for that reason...

I think there is enough to do without added pressures..

My initial thought when reading the OP was to tell the family to go f*ck themselves. As long as you are happy the way you are, you should ignore other comments - the only one that matters most is your H2B who has told you that he finds you sexy!! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

I agree with everything that's been said. If you diet it has to be for you not anybody else.

I've always been naturally slim, and I decided to start toning up about 4 months before Mr. B even proposed for myself because I noticed I was heading more towards a size 12 and I wasn't happy with that because it just doesn't suit my frame. I lost about a stone very gradually and I'm happy now with my size. I've continued with the gym and running because I enjoy it and it makes me feel good, plus I have a huge appetite and sweet tooth, and going to the gym pretty much means I can continue to eat what I want. I will continue my running and the gym after I am married for same reasons.

What has your h2b said about his sister butting in? I'd be mortified!

I think you should make it clear to them that you are happy as you are and h2b loves you that way. They should leave you alone, you dont need to lose any weight xx

I used to always be on a diet and went quite thin at one point, but afterthe year ive had ive realised that life is too short. xx

I work in a bridal shop, i never ever suggest that a bride loses weight. i truely believe that if your fiance wants to marry you, not a girl smaller than you, if he did, he wouldnt have asked you to marry him (does that make sense??)
when it comes to what size dress to order, we show our brides the size charts, we show, what size we think they should order, but we believe that a bride/bridesmaid knows their body better than we do. so if they want too/ and are convinced that they will loose weight, they can order whatever size they like. eg if they measure up a size 16 we expalin to fit in a size 14, you will have to loose roughly 1 stone, if you are sure you will lose 1 stone, order a size 14. if you dont want the pressure, order a size 16, if you do loose 1 stone, have the dress taken in!

I'm a size 10/12 and I'm not dieting, I'm going to the gym to tone up and I also bought my WD a size bigger, not only to get the extra length but also to give myself a little leeway (you never know what's round the corner). Acutally went and tried my dress on again last week and I had lost a little weight without really trying ?

If you are happy and your H2B is happy then just tell his family and they will understand, they prob think that every bride diets before her big day but as you have read it's not the case.

It's your day darlin and I'm sure you will look gorgeous in a bin bag!...don't go along with his family cos your don't want to offend, be yourself, that's who your H2B wants to marry...not a Posh Spice look-a-like ?

This seems to be a common problem, tell them to stop being so rude or else you'll set Gok on them!!
It'd be great to write to him and have him write a note to your family!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the moral support.? Certainly feel better about standing my ground now!!

I was beginning to feel like i was the odd one for not going on a mad diet.

H2B still keeps i'm lovely, sexy etc and thats all i care about..

Lots of people expected me to diet before our wedding, but I wasn't in the right frame of mind to do it so it would never have worked. I was a lot bigger than I ever had been and wasn't happy about it, but dieting would have been too much pressure to me.

As long as you are happy then ignore them. Your H loves you the way you are and that's what matters.

Oh, and I don't actually think that a 14/16 is that overweight.
