Prezzies!!! ;)

sr3693, 23 May, 2012 at 11:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Sorry self indulgent post here but am very touched! Have just been given a card, some pink champagne, a horseshoe & £180 worth of spending money from

work for our honeymoon! Soo lovely and so generous!

Smiley smile

Quick question though, the horseshoe, am I meant to put it on my arm after we're married? I think I've seen this somewhere?

My Mum had one when she got married in 1998, that was the last time I've ever seen anyone with one. Oh, and the wooden spoon, rolling pin, black cat?? I'm sure she had those too. ?

I was given one and didn't really know what to do with it. I wore it on my wrist while juggling my bouquet and champers during the drinks reception then gave it to my mum to mind

The 'lucky horseshoe' is believed to originate from a story of Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury in the 10th century, and he had many skills including that of a blacksmith.

Legend tells a story that Dunstan was asked to re-shoe the Devil's horse, and when Dunstan realised it was the Devil, he nailed a horseshoe onto the Devil's hoof and this caused the Devil incredible pain. Dunstan is said to have told the Devil, he would only remove the shoe, if the Devil promised never to enter a building when a horseshoe is hung over the door. The Devil agreed and Dunstan removed the horseshoe from his hoof.

The 'lucky horseshoe over the door' thing has evolved over time, and centuries later, it was believed good luck for a bride to be handed a horseshoe as this would keep the devil away from the happy couple.
