At least you have plenty of time to save up for it.

Do you have any pics of it?

Where abouts are you and your venue ?

What will put the price up significantly is the free bar and the "free flowing wine" which you mention. Our hotel - which is fairly cheap comparatively - charges £16 for a bottle of house wine which isn't anything overly special really so it might be worth checking to see if you're actually getting decent stuff, or simply overinflated prices just like most other wedding venues do.

Can you share the link so we can see what place you're talking about? It may of course be worth it but that does seem like there's a lot of things which you may not necessarily have wanted that you're paying for "free but included in the price".

Most people don't expect "free flowing wine and a free bar" these days. That's why most packages don't include them.

Yes i will find a link and attach ladies!

The wine free flowing doesnt change the price much if i offered one glass with the meal, i will have a nosey though like you said

you do have to have their dj though, the flowers are co-ordinated to your choice

I just love the venue Smiley sad

If you and your partner both love the venue, they can do what you want them to do, and you can afford it, then go for it - that's the main thing really.

Looking forward to seeing a link though - it sounds awfully posh for a package like that Smiley smile

One thing though - are those numbers the maximum the package allows, and is it any cheaper if the numbers are lower (or is it a fixed price)? Are those figures that work with your guest list idea?

For our place, we have to pay for 100 minimum for the evening reception even if we only had 20 people there. That's fine with our numbers, but if you were looking for a small wedding in a big venue you might find you're paying too much - if, of course, the venue allow smaller numbers.

The day guests is 80 inline with my guests

the night is pay for 170 and invite up to 250!

The lower package with 3 glasses of wine rather than free flowing is 14k!

A word of caution... my wedding was free flowing wine. Loads of people got very very drunk!!!! Three glasses of wine is plenty. I would opt for this and save £2K,people now expect to pay for drinks when they get to weddings.

16k does sound like a lot. I expect it must be a really posh place on a sat in May/june/july/aug?

Enjoy planning... I wish it was me again!!! xx

If a venue quoted me that kind of figure I would definitely say thanks but no thanks. We had this with one venue we went to see, they wanted us to commit to this big package that included all of this stuff we didn't want and they weren't willing to take that package apart so we walked away.

If you are happy to pay that much, and can accept that you will probably get a better deal somewhere else without a big all in package, then go ahead. For me it's a bit much, no matter how good the venue is.

    Thanks ladies

The thing is, when you look in Manchester city centre for a similar package the price is aroung 12k then I need cars, flowers,dj ect which is included in this venue!

I really appreciate all your advise though girl and although I do love this venue, I am going to look at several more first before I jump in

If its the first one you have looked at definately look around. I liked the first venue we saw and said I wanted it and would have booked there and then, oh said lets look more....then I completely fell in love with the second venue and desperately wanted it, i looked at the website constantly but again oh said lets look more. We ended up going for the 5th venue we visited and i wouldn't change it now for the other ones as its nicer (and cheaper)!

You dont know if your getting a good deal until you see what else is on offer! You may end up going back to that one but atleast you have looked around and wont have any doubts.

I do think it's a tad on the expensive side,

Have you looked around there's lots of lovely places in Manchester for example

    https://www.devere.co.uk/

The above was out out my price range but it might be suitable for yourself,

    Good luck in your hunt,

I think it's way overpriced, I'd try and negotiate.

And I agree free bar or 'free flowing wine' is not a very good idea - it will only mean you get a load of people getting drunk and potentially causing a ruckuss/row/fight/scene of some kind.

    Hi,

I think, as you said, you should use your time to have a look at lots of venues and talk to the wedding coordinators at each venue so you will be able to make a really informed decision. It might be that this venue is still first choice but at least then you will be more confident in your choice as you will have lots of knowledge.

In terms of cost, when comparing venue make sure you breakdown the costs, i.e whats included and is whats included, what you want? Don't be afraid to ask about switching things in packages as the worst a supplier can say is no and something is only a bargain if its something you want.

Maybe take a close friend or family member for a second viewing to get an opinion you trust.

We went and viewed davenport green and on first appearance all looked good!

we got sold the speil about the michelin chef that they had 'poached' from a top london restaurant which turned out not to be true. think they quoted us £14k for 100 day time and 150 evening guests. that was for one drink in drinks reception and 2 glasses with meal.

the staff were so pushy though and rude and looked down there nose at us, when we said we would look elsewhere as if it was because we couldnt afford it. this wasnt necessarily the case just didnt get a very good vibe from it.

in the end we have booked a place called styal lodge. its a gorgeous venue and definetly woirth a look. you book the lodge and then book everything else, such as caterers seperately, which means we can have whatever dsy we want.

    as i say definately worth a look!!!xx

Mottram hall was a little over our budget but it is gorgeous,

I can't remember the exact price but for a saturday wedding they wanted at least 90 day guests

as we are only having around 60 to the day bit, i didn't want to invite people just to make up

    numbers.

Cheadle house is costing 6k for all i'm getting so it worked out better for us personally and

they also have different packages ours being Bronze and the cheapest but i do love my venue can't wait for the wedding fayre this sunday.

Take your time to have a look around it's half the fun after all !

    Good Luck x

I think that price is a little at the higher side but it saves you all the hassle. With 5 course meal + canapes, dj, car, ceremony, flowers, i'd say it's about there.

But you do need to find out what exactly is in the package ie. do you get to choose the 5 courses, what car do they provide, how will be the flower decor be, etc. Yes, the quality of the things really - maybe cheap and not up to your standard.

My flowers cost me nearly 1k for a rather simple and small wedding.

Advice: Go look around, visit the place, get all the quotes then decide. You still have plenty of time to be honest

I would say thats quite pricey and the thing that comes to my mind is that would you want that car? (just says for the bride too, what about bridesmaids?) and how many flowers what would be the budget?

Also I dont think i would want a free flowing bar.

Mottram Hall looks lovely and it was one that i wanted to look at, though i read the reveiws and it totally put me off, at the time my friend got married there and i went to her reception, she got a fab late deal and it was perfect for her but it was all to samey for me and a bit bland..

I too looked at Style loge but that wasn't for me!

Cheadle house looks lovely so that might be worth looking into.

I'm getting married here.. https://heatonhousefarm.co.uk/ I fell in love with the venue straight away. Pandora'sbox is getting wed here too.

    Where do you live?

If I wanted to see if they would negotiate on price, how do I approach this!?

I know it might seem a while away 2013, but I want my venue booked so that the pressue has gone while I am studying throughout the year, one of the venues I have looked at have 7 bookings for 2013!

what is the avg price for a venue, drinks, buffet and room hire?

I'd approach it by saying i love the venue ect ect ect it seems perfect yarda yarda yarda but the price is over our budget is there anything we can do in terms of this .....

Average prices does depend on a lot of things like

Where you want to get married (area)

    What day

    What month

i can only go off my venue for prices i think mine with out the exclusive use was £4k

for getting married there, drinks package, wedding breakfast, dj, buffet, and other little bits and bobs
