Price of flowers??

Miezy83, 18 February, 2014 at 18:40 Posted on Planning 0 12

We're getting married in Oct this year and haven't really started the flower hunt yet but today I popped into a florist just out of interest. We talked about colours etc and what sort of thing we'd be looking for. She is going to get some ideas and give me a final price but she did mention that generally the brides bouquet starts from around £75!!! Does this sound right and if so how much have other people paid for their flowers? I really wasn't expecting to be paying that much to be honest! I'm based in the North East aswell if anyone has good suggestions of cheaper florists! Thanks fellow brides:-)

Sounds about right but depends on what flowers you are having. Mine is £80 and bridesmaids are £45.

The key word here is 'generally'. I'm in West Yorkshire and our prices are pretty much in line with the North East and your florist is quite right when she says that 'generally' bridal bouquets do start at around £75. One thing to bear in mind though is that the general price will be for an average size bridal bouquet using choice flowers but you can pay much less if you go for something less than average size or minimalistic in design and using a selection of seasonal, everyday flowers rather than 'choice' flowers. All florists are trained to work to a customer's budget so if you have a maximum, realistic, price in mind, then it's always best to be up front with him/her so they can suggest ways of giving you the best possible bouquet for the price you want to pay.

One point I always mention to customers who are on a limited budget is to spend as little as possible on bridesmaids and spend the bulk of your budget on your bouquet and the Groom's buttonhole as these are the flowers that will feature mostly on your photos. Although people will notice your bridesmaids, you and your hubby to be will be the main focus of the day and all eyes will be on you Smiley winking

    Hope that helps.

I think that's about right but just as others have said, it depends on what flowers you have.

Mine is £75 or 80 (can't remember) and bridesmaids are about £45.

I think in total our flowers are costing us around £700... That includes 2 BMs, button holes, my bouquet, table centre pieces.

I think that seems about right. I just couldn't justify the price of flowers to myself and have decided to make my own. I've spend £30 and that will make me a bouquet, my daughters hairpiece, button holes and decorate the place cards. They're not to everyone's taste but they sum me and OH up pretty well and we can keep them forever Smiley smile

My flowers in total come to £280, my bouquet costing £120 (I'm having lillies which are my fav flower and typically are expensive!!)

I'm not having flowers on the tables or anything, god only knows what the cost would be if I was - so I'd say the price she's given you is about right Smiley smile

I can't remember what mine are exactly but similar I think.

Our total is about £1300 for my bouquet, 2 BM's, 13 button holes, 8 tables and some venue decoration.

Thanks Overtherainbow, that sounds like good advice! Think I'm gonna have a bit more of a hunt and go for something minimal for the bridesmaids! I've got another appointment on Tuesday and their bridal bouquets start at around £49 so hopefully might be a bit more reasonable with them!!

charliejack...I'm the 11th Oct and can't believe how quickly time is passing!! :-)

Yikes! I had no idea flowers were going to be so expensive! Considering you can get a pretty stunning bouquet of flowers any other time for around £25 in a florist or a market stall, it's shocking that the price goes up considerably as soon as 'wedding' is put next to anything.

I'm considering going to a wholesale flower market to get them cheaper and make myself with my bridal party - probably have to be done last minute in the days before the wedding but it would make for a fun afternoon and there are even tutorials for flower arranging online. It can't be that difficult and I'm going for a laid back country theme anyway so they don't have to be too fancy. I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. I'm being a total DIY bride as all my money has gone on the venue and catering!

Have you considered Silk Flowers? They're much cheaper and you get to keep them afterwards! I have found some bouquets for £25 and bridesmaid ones around the same price. It just depends on what you want, but silk are definitely cheaper than real... and if you don't mind about them not being real it can work out a lot cheaper!
