lauren700, 3 March, 2011 at 15:25 Posted on Planning 0 22

Can anyone recommend a good primer? I have fairly dry skin.

I prefer Laura Mercier to Smashbox. Longer lasting coverage and feels nicer when you put it on. Last for ages too.

The Smashbox primer is supposed to be vay good. I have used the Laura Mercier primer (smells of fish but is quite good) and the MAC primer. I think the MAC primer is rather good.

Are you having your make-up done or doing it yourself?

I have used both Mac and Smashbox and now use Smashbox daily and would recommend that.

Having it done for the wedding but have so many coming up and with my own I thought I might try to take better care of my skin!! Anyone used that gal?!?

Is it overkill to start using that and this soap and glory wish upon a jar? I already use clinique 3 step. So many products, so confused!

I personally don't rate Clinique skincare. Full of chemicals. I used to use their clarifying lotion to take off my nail varnish! The S & G Wish Upon a Jar sounds like moisturiser so would use that instead of moisturiser for the 21 days.

Haven't used That Gal but might be worth getting one of the Benefit girls to put it on you to see what you think.

I have That Gal and it feels lovely, really refreshing on your skin... the girl in Benefit gave me a full bridal make-over for free... and I then spent a fortune.

Mrs C's wedding... sponsored by Benefit!

I have to rate Estee Lauder Night Repair (it does wonders for your skin). Although I used it morning and night. MAC primers are good as I have olive skin. MAC PAINT is a great primer for your eyes if your wearing eye shadow. Although I dont have greasy skin I could never stop my eye shadow from creasing. MAC Paint does the trick ! MAC foundations are very good too. Great coverage but light. Hope that helps x

For dry skin Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer is very good.

Having tried smashbox, laura mercier & benefit that gal my firm favourite is that gal. I just find it's the best one for dry skin.

I have that gal and only used it mixed in with the benefit tinted moisturiser which makes a lovely day to day base but not really sure how it fares compared to other primers, I was debating giving smash box a go as I have read a few places that it is good! The only other thing I will say about that gal is the first time I used it, it made my skin sting a bit. was Ok after a while but might not be great if you have sensitive skin (which i generally dont)

I'm generally a bit of a makeup snob, but I love the makeup primer by Avon. Makes your skin feel really soft.

I used to use primer on everyone I worked on but gave up about 2 years ago after I found that my Dior and Chanel bases seemed to sit better on bare skin. I set them with Makeup Forever Mist and Fix. This sets the makeup invisibly all day. The only skin I would use primer on would be oily skin. I would use oc8 on it (www.oc8.co.uk). For dryer skin I would recommend Chanel Vitalumiere or Prolumiere. Juliet

Spangles is making it sound worse than it is. I think it's her fish face influencing her, to be honest.

It smells a little odd when it comes out of the tube but doesn't smell odd once it's on. If nothing else, it's worth getting the Laura Mercier girls to try it on you. Same for any of the others.

Hahhaa! Well mine smells funny. FACT. It is good though. The smell disappears after 5 mins or so.

Have you tried the various primers from The Make Up Store? It's a Swedish company who have just opened two shops in London - but they are not nationwide yet. (One is behind Liberty, on Carnaby St, and the other is at Westgate shopping centre).

I was in London last week for a change, and spent a very enjoyable Friday afternoon testing out various colours... I liked their blotting powder in particular because it kept the sheen off my face the whole day.

Jacket potato with tuna for lunch. Blame the SW diet, not my face, missus!
