Printing Own Invites - What Card Did People Use??

MrsShark, 21 April, 2011 at 10:00 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hello Hitchers,

We are using my works fabby laserjet printer to print our wedding invites (with bosses permission of course ?) and have finalised the design but now wondering what card to use....

I am undecided whether to go for pocketfold invites or not....will these print out ok??

Is anyone else who has also printed their own invites able to give me any advice pleeeeeeeease??

    We just printed on 160gsm A4 card, and folded/cut as appropriate. Didn't use pocketfolds in the end, sorry.

    We've used a 350gm, pure white, with a slight textured handmade looking finish.

    The printer let me see and feel all his samples, and I thought that that one felt more personal and handmade (even though it isn't) many of the others had a slick corporate feel to them, which I didn't think was right for a wedding.

    Haha! Thanks Flow!!

    I bought 140x140 pocketfolds from PDA Card and Craft in Cryogen (sparkly off white, not pearlescent) and laid out the designs for the front panel, invitation and inserts onto 2 sheets of A4 in Powerpoint (one of these was double sided to make a booklet type insert). I then printed these on my little home Kodak inkjet printer and cut them out with a guillotine.

    I also saved all of the off cuts and used these to make the placecards later.

    I would get some samples of the card that you want to use first as not all printers will print on pearlescent card and you might need to test the thickness.

    Haven't got a photo on my work PC but may be able to find the link to a previous post...

    Thank you everyone and Mrs C can I just ask...a rather silly question now I think about it.....but did you print directly onto the pocketfold invites?

    My plan is to use the cartoon my OH has done so not sure how to lay this out on pocketfold invites?!

    I have also seen these;

    https://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk/parchment-card.html

    But not sure about the ease of printing something this size on a printer??

    Just seem to be confusing myself more and more!! ?

    Short answer - I didn't print directly onto the pocket!

    I printed the front design onto the same card and stuck it onto the front with double sided tape.

    When I ordered samples I also tried the pre-cut inserts but my printer didn't like printing onto something so small and it made designing so much harder, which is why I went for the 'print onto A4 and then cut it out' route!!

    Mrs C thank you again....I think I am getting myself all tied up in knots with this so will probably go for the same 'print onto A4 and cut out route'....I have all of next week off work so by the end of it will have wedding invitations somehow!!

    EDITED TO ADD:

    Right just had a fiddle around and think I will use this card in the A4 size;

    https://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk/parchment-card.html

    I have laid out the inserts so they will print 4 to a page (making them A6) and will make 'wallets' by printing the cartoon on one side and fold and double-sided sticky tape it together....GET IN!!

    A plan hurrah!!

    I didnt make my own invites but making our OOS and menu etc right now on 240gsm hammered card and its keeps jamming! Some printers wont take it at all, just smudges ink or jams! Check what thickeness the printer will take x

    Hey hun, that's great info thanks! I just love the look and feel of the parchment card, and it fits our kinda boho beach wedding vibe really well., so good to hear that someone else has used it successfully!

    To upload a pic, when you compose a message or reply - in the header with the B, I, U, font etc you have to go to the icon that looks like a film negative (if the pic is on your pc) or the icon that looks like a tree (if the pic is on t'interweb). If the picture is on pc then just click 'choose file' and browse for it and that should be that!

    Mrs C - I didn't see your original thread until just now so I have to tell you how amazing your invitations are! And what a mind-reader you are ? I've bought the same design from Fotolia and our colour scheme includes the same turquoisey blue that you've used!
