Prison solicitor- how can I find one?

Mrs S Smith, 4 August, 2008 at 12:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone would know where I can search for local (Cambridgeshire) based solicitors that specialise in prisons? Google is not really my friend...

?

Try the Law Society website chick. Should be able to find what you need there.

Not sure what you mean by 'specialise in prisons'. Do you mean a duty solicitor?

I assumed she meant prisoners' rights etc

Mrs Smith, it's quite a specialist area so I wouldn't necessarily hope to find anyone that local (unless it's a simple issue, in which case a criminal specialist should be able to help). The Institute of Prison Law might be a good starting place for anything complex- they list some firms here http://prisons.org.uk/lawyers.html

Def get a solicitor that specialises in the area. I'm a civil servant and some of the solicitors i deal with haven't got a clue what goes on in a prison and laws that are in place - its quite scary really!
