For your ceremony, its sometimes better to stick with a theme, ie you've chosen canon in D to enter, so it would tie in well to use classical music for the other bits IYSWIM. I often advice choosing something more uplifting for walking out as it signals the end of the solemn bit and the beginning of the celebration. Some classical music I've used before are 4 seasons - vivaldi (just part of one of them!), trumpet voluntary - Jeremiah Clarke, Jesu, Joy of man's desire (instrumental), arrival of the queen of Sheba.

If you want classical, but you're not familiar with the genre and want something that everyone recognises, try searching 'classical music used in adverts'.

For your background music, if you wanted to stick to fairly recent, there's some lovely choices... Jason Mraz - I'm Yours, Adele - Chasing pavements, Paolo Nutini - Candy, Alicia Keys - Empire state of mind (prt 2), Duffy - warwich avenue ...the list is endless.

    Hope that helps

I have thought about asking a friend of mine to sing for the ceremony music. She is a chorestor and very good but I am not sure if its appropriate to have someone singing for the ceremony?

Hi, firstly I definitely think its fine to have a friend singing at the ceremony. I have been to a few weddings with singers and thought they were lovely!

As for the music go complement the Canon in D I agree that its nice to stick with classical... I like Handels Watermusic (Suite 2) as an exit song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT1oTBSqR4E or maybe even better is 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjd4sOh9hVg&feature=related - I think this gets everyone in an excited and happy mood! I also LOVE Bachs 'Air on a G string' (ignoring the name!) and think it would be fabulous in the middle of the ceremony at some stage. I am trying to fit it into mine somewhere! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2j-frfK-yg

For our wedding breakfast, we are having some light hearted music in the background.

    Jack Johnson

    James Morrison etc

I don't necessarily agree with sticking to a classical theme for the ceremony: many people have requested music from me which mirrors their "journey into matrimony" - so walking in to something like the Pachelbel Canon and Gigue, signing the registar to Sinatra or the like and then leaving to Take That, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz and the like. A few of my most recent requests are here: https://www.celebratewithmusic.co.uk/recommendations.html

    Hope that helps!

Modern songs, if played on a violin or piano, have a classical feel to them. I was referring to recorded music. If you follow canon in D with an original recording of a modern song with a definite bass and a very modern sound, it could feel a tad odd.

I have in the past got piano versions of songs and different genres mixed perfectly well.... so thats an option.

My cousin is singing whilst we sign the register - she sounds fab and her brother will acompany her with guitar. We're having when i see you smile - bic runga, we've only just begun - carpenters and songbird by eve cassidy. Cannon D to walk in and one day like this by elbow to leave to.
