I wondered if anyone could explain SATS levels to me and their relevance?

Thanks for that Nonie, that's helpful.

The reason I wanted to look into it further relates to my son - Year 4. He's just 8, the youngest in the year being a late August baby, and we had his parents evening last night.. they were generally of the opinion that's he's very noisy and slightly difficult to manage but improving (this is ongoing, it's always been that way), and his work is fine. Not good, not bad, just fine. However, the paperwork we were given with his SATS targets on are that he's currently achieving 3a for Reading, Writing and Maths, and his target is to achieve 4C for all by February.

Having questioned his teacher about this, she was quite sure it was the correct grade, so I was just thinking it they are assuming he will achieve 4C by February then it would seem to be that he's doing rather better than 'fine'... or am I being a pushy parent?

I think you may have my son in your class!

I understand what you're saying.. I think we are probably (and understandably) coming at it from different angles though, because I understand how you want your boy to conform but I also understand how the parents would want to hear about how well he is doing. Tricky isn't it. Thanks for the advice on SATS x

When I taught in mainstream some parents were ONLY interested in their child's attainment levels and others couldn't give a stuff!

The levels have already been explained so I don't need to say any more about that.
