Problem finding wedding venue

Mirandarf, 22 December, 2008 at 16:30 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hello All

I am not sure if what i am asking is impossible as i have been looking high and low with no result so far to find but ill give it a go!

It can be in a town or country, but wherever it is, needs to be very relaxed, ideally with some outside space for games but it needs to be able to cater for 120 people and be cheap ( ie not the usual hire cost of £3000) and we want to be able to have a very casual BBQ type wedding breakfast rather than the traditional sit down.

I have looked at hotels etc but the price to hire them and you have to use their caterers - which bumps it up to the whole of our budget!

I would be so grateful if anyone can come up with any suggestions for Shropshire or Staffordshire area - farm, barn, village hall with outdoor space etc etc. Ideally would like the whole thing in the one place too - so wanting too much then!

Thank very much for taking the time to read and look forward to any suggestions!

Miranda

If you wanted a venue in Hampshire, ours would have been perfect - it was a village hall - so I would carry on looking for village halls - if you google village halls in your area you might get lucky!

I have posted something almost identical to this earlier today and got some great replies.

It is quite difficult (or it had seemed so to me!) to find this sort of venue and not pay the earth for it.

Best of luck and hope you find your dream place.

Thanks to a lovely Hitcher, we may just have Smiley laugh

Are you looking to hold the ceremony there or just reception? Have you tried the venue finder on here?

Thanks for the replies so far. We are ideally looking to do it in one place - but open to suggestions as this stage!

Will suggest the same as i did earlier to paula1b - you need to go to your local council (or the council in which you want to get married) and look at their list of licensed venues as this will give you all the places you can get married in as a starting point.

sorry can't suggest actual places as am not local, but good luck.

    Hi ya

Following on from Blue water, a lot of the councils will have the list of licensed venues online. Here are the ones for staffordshire

    https://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/community/lifeevents/premises/

And you can contact shropshire council to see if they do the same thing

Village and church halls are always really good value and with a bit of imagination you can make them look fantastic. If you need more space in case of bad weather, you can buy party tents instead of a proper marquee quite cheaply from Ebay and then sell them on again afterwards to make some money back.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-10-x-30-Wedding-Party-Tent-Marquee-Gazebo-w-sides_W0QQitemZ290284213455QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Home_Garden_Garden_Structures_Fencing_CV?hash=item290284213455&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1296%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Alternatively you can get a list of local farms and contact them to see if they have they have a barn with a field you can use, however, you will need to arrange for power and toilets and it is a lot more to do.

With regard to the ceremony, you can arrange for a humanist ceremony which can be held anywhere so you could put together your own ceremony at the village hall, outside if they have lovely gardens or a nice outside area. The only thing is it isn't a legal ceremony so you would need to have a small registry office ceremony just to get the documents signed. You only need to have two witness' or if you like your whole family then go for a nice lunch somewhere and have a second wedding!

I hope you find what you are looking for.

You'd need a seperate place for ceremony for some of these, but maybe worth a look as an alternative to village hall

    http://www.polesworthparish.co.uk/barn/index.php

    http://www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk/conference-facilities/weddings.php

It's also worth remembering that not all hotels only offer sit down meals, this place looks nice:

FOund all these on the venue finder on here, there are loads for both Staffs and Shrops, good luck

Why don't you try somewhere like your local Rugby club.

You may not be able to have the ceremony there but like ours, the hire will be around £500 and you can have all osrts of catering facilities....you can't get more outside space than a few pitches!

We have started hiring ours out.( in Kent) and it's proving very popular....you get good bar prices too!!

    Hope you find somewhere

I think Trentham is quite expensive - could be wrong though!

There is also Sandhole Oak Barn, http://www.sandholeoakbarn.co.uk/ which is near Congleton (so in Cheshire), but might be worth a look. Again, I don't know about prices.

    Good luck! x

We held our wedding in a hotel in Yorkshire.

The room hire was something like £500.

We had a three couse meal at approx. £25 per head, but you could enquire re: BBQ's and see how that goes.
